Just had a user contact who is trying to search a yard in Rugby, Warwickshire (CV23 8UX) but is getting odd results. I’ve done the same and all of the first 7 or 8 results say they are 5.84 miles away (even though they are actually around 120 miles away!) whether you enter place name or postcode, even if you enter a different, smaller town or village location close to Rugby.

    http://www.liverylist.co.uk/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=rugby&sgeodir_YardName=&sgeo_lat=52.370878&sgeo_lon=-1.2650320000000193

I have searched other random UK locations and the results seem normal for everywhere else?

Also, not sure if it is related but when i log in to GD it tells me “Google Maps API KEY not set, click here to set one OR use Open Street Maps instead” (although rest of maps function seems to be working okay).

Where would i find the Google Maps API to re-enter as i cannot see on Downloads with my other licence keys. Does this mean the one i had expired or i need to enter a new one since re-registering with WS Support because there was some confusion with my renewal as a new account rather than renewal? Or is it something completely independent (i.e direct with Google) that I need to renew?

    Many thanks

If you enter rugby in the near field, then the result returned will show the distances to the center of Rugby, see https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#near

You can find how to set your Google API key here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/add-google-api-key/

    Thanks

Thanks, it doesn’t though- thats the point! If you enter ‘Rugby’ in the search box the first 7 results it shows all show as being 5.84 miles away from Rugby (which they aren’t- the first result it brings up is in fact 120 miles away, the 2nd result 60 miles away!). If you type in a location just outside Rugby it does the same thing and brings up yards that are 50/60 miles away saying they are nearest and showing only a few miles as the distance result.

I have tried with other locations in the UK and seems to be fine so its not an issue with the system as a whole. Just wonder if there is something that can corrupt a particular location on maps. I know recently we had an issue with Bristol and it was referring to Bristol in the US instead of UK but you guys helped me solve that by restricting searches to UK and within a reasonable distance to exclude the US results which solved the issue but unsure what could be causing this issue.

Thanks for API info- have now reentered it.

For me the first seven results show about 6 miles from the center of Rugby as the crow flies.
And if drive, then it is a bit over 7 miles. See images.

    I am confused …
