Hi,
I’m glad this at least solved the issue. You are not the only one who reported this: you can follow up on the issue here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/fatal-error-call-to-undefined-function-geodir_is_geodir_page/
We will try to track it down before next update.
Thx

October 24, 2014 at 2:28 pm #19430Paolo/Stiofan,
Regarding the commenting 1 star…I just tested this on my dev site and that is exactly what it does…
If someone simply comments without selecting a rating star, it automatically makes it a 1 star review.
IMHO this is completely wrong. The previous system which allowed someone to comment without having to explicitly leave a review was much better. That allowed for dialog between users, listing owner, etc. Even if someone changes their 1 star to an average 3 star, that will begin to skew the overall rating. And what happens if the listing owner replies to comments…if they don’t notice the star, it looks like they are giving their own listing a 1 star rating, if they make it a 5 star, it looks like they are trying to artificially lift their rating.
I’d rather see:
– the review count be a total count of all comments with ratings
– anyone can comment without having to leave a ratingHope this can be rolled back/corrected sooner rather than later.
cheers
October 24, 2014 at 2:32 pm #19432“If no rating star selected for review then it should save minimum 1 rating”
I think you should set this field “required”, user must rating to post review
I hope you can add more point rating styleOctober 24, 2014 at 2:45 pm #19435Hi Identity,
I think the developer misunderstood 1 point we assigned to him and made it that way.
Personally I think users shouldn’t be able to leave comments without rating.
Mixing comment and reviews in the same list sounds totally wrong to me.
But I wouldn’t add the 1 star, I’d rather validate the form and prevent submission if no stars assigned.
Thx
October 24, 2014 at 3:33 pm #19450Paolo,
my concern is that there is no communication channel then. It would be one thing if there was separate “Review” and “Commenting” functions.
If it is combined, then anyone trying to simply comment ends up leaving a rating. The good thing at least is that if someone replies to a comment/review, it doesn’t leave a rating for that.
I see both sides and this seems like something that should be admin defined so that each site can have this handled specifically. If a rating is required, then additional language should be applied and instead of a default rating, it should require explicit rating.
Again though, my desired functionality would be that rating is optional. If ratings start getting skewed simply because the listing owner is replying to comments and others are leaving comments without actually reviewing, then the value of the ratings is completely lost.
cheers
October 24, 2014 at 4:14 pm #19456Hi,
maybe I didn’t express myself properly.
Replies shouldn’t count as reviews and that is clear.
My point is : why letting visitors comment (not reply) without leaving a review, inside a review system???
Just because we are using wp comments for reviews, I don’t think it should be used for both reviews and comments.
The tab says Reviews, the form says Leave a Review, none of the big directory websites like yelp or tripadvisor allows to leave comments, just reviews.
In my opinion star rating should be mandatory and form submission should not work until stars are selected.
It’s a review system, not a comment system and should only be used for reviews.
Thx
October 24, 2014 at 5:21 pm #19465The reality though is that if people are going to comment, they are going to comment, and if a rating is forced, then they will still comment. And this happens on Amazon and the review sites. I can’t stop people from commenting if they want, but hopefully by not requiring people to leave a rating unless they want to, I can preserve the value and integrity of the ratings and make my site better than the other review sites.
Since this is a key function of a directory/review site, my hope is that this can be made a setting in the admin, then every site can choose how they want to handle this and everyone wins.
Adds more complexity to GD, yes, but hopefully that much better than everything else out there. As I’m sure you know, it’s far better to market your product on the differences than “we also’s,” especially when you are able to match the others as well as offer the differences.
Cheers
October 24, 2014 at 5:32 pm #19467Hi again,
serious reviews website moderate their reviews and if someone leave a comment that obviously isn’t a proper review, they don’t publish it.
That’s how to make a website better then the competition. Certainly not relying on the system to do everything for you.
In addition, would you really think it would be good to have comments in between reviews? Would that make your website better or just confusing?
In any case, you know the procedure for new features: https://wpgeodirectory.com/requests/
At the moment nobody else requested to have comment mixed with reviews.
Thanks
October 24, 2014 at 5:39 pm #19468Hello,
I agree with the identity – we don’t have to force customers to rate. Previous systems was more user friendly.
October 24, 2014 at 5:51 pm #19474As a user, if I visit a website where I expect to read reviews, I would be surprised to find other users chat. I would only want to read reviews.
For the above, saying the system was more user friendly, makes it a questionable opinion, but it still an opinion and I respect it.
In my opinion, allowing to comment without rating was simply a bug.
If you wish to see a new option to enable to mix comments and reviews please post it in the request system and if many more vote for it, we will consider it.
Thx
