I have a multi city website I am working on with geo directory.
I do not want users to be able to search for a location by place. I want them to search for a city and have it show all places available in said city.
I was thinking I could use some sort of taxonomy search plugin. I also thought of creating a separate page for each city and loading it with all the locations. Any ideas on what I can do?
January 8, 2018 at 7:08 am #411885Hi Calgar,
Could you visit this demo site https://wpgeo.directory/starter/ and try searching a city using the “Near” field and see if it’s what you’re looking for? Try typing “Philadelphia” and you’ll notice the “Autocomplete” feature displays a result as shown in the attached. Is this what you’re looking for? You can remove other search fields using custom CSS.
Thanks!
January 8, 2018 at 7:54 pm #411979that would work, and that is what I originally tried. I should try it again. The standard search bar from the widget section should work yes??
January 9, 2018 at 3:52 am #412008Hi Calgar C,
Thanks for your reply. The example you see uses a premium addon called “Advanced Search Addon” and it can be purchased here https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/advanced-search-filters/ . Also, you’ll need the “Location Manager addon” https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/location-manager/ if you wish to include more than one city in your directory. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

January 14, 2018 at 7:52 pm #412738I got the searh by city functioning now, but it says there are no lcoations available when I do a search. I hid the other search functions using display:none in css.
Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec are the city examples I added.
Any help on what I am doing wrong would be appreciated

If you take a look at the test page, those are some of the location manager shortcodes:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/location-manager-shortcodes/
It looks like the nearby autocompleter is working as expected on the new test page.
Take a look at your home page and your custom CSS and look for a conflict that is breaking it.
Fair warning, the advanced search autocompleter uses ajax, so it is very dependant on the speed of the host. Again, though, it works on the text page.
Let us know what you find out about the home page there
January 15, 2018 at 6:49 pm #412839thanks. I will have a look when I get home.
