We were contacted by a therapist who has a listing on therapyforblackmen.org because his listing was not coming up in searches by zip code, city or state.
When I investigated it turned out that geodirectory was not able to place the address on the map. When I entered latitude and longitude manually and resaved the listing, search by zip code and city began working as expected. However, searching by the state still fails.

There is a problem with the two virginia locations in the multilocations settings.
First, before adjusting locations, you should review the settings here:
GD – Multilocations – ADD LISTING FORM SETTINGS
You have disabled the option to update the address based on the location of the map pin.
So, if you UNCHECK that, then try to add a listing in Virgina, a new Virginia is created.
Then go back to the other Virgina listings, and update the location (move the map pin a bit) and the address will be corrected.
I understand why you disabled that settings, as the office addresses are very precise, however, the locations were previously entered incorrectly (the tradeoff).
The new virginia will have a -1 appended, you can see this article about fixing that.

I have checked all the listings and there are now none with a ‘-1’ as part of a slug. I have resaved permalinks. There is only one active listing in Virginia which is:
https://therapyforblackmen.org/therapists/virginia/alexandria/marcus-r-patterson-psy-d/
However, this listing is still not being found by running a search for ‘Virginia’.

I’m not sure what you mean by that. How is it labeled exactly in Geodirectory?
January 17, 2019 at 3:36 pm #463723Locations were NOT added manually by the way.
January 17, 2019 at 3:41 pm #463724“Disable move map pin from changing address fields” is NOT checked so it should NOT be disabled at the moment. As far as I know, it has never been checked.
January 17, 2019 at 3:52 pm #463728Also, please note the second Therapist in Virginia does not come up in search because the status is ‘pending’. That is fine.
January 17, 2019 at 4:10 pm #463739Sorry about that, I finally understood what you were suggesting. I was able to move the map pin without changing the address and save the listing again. The search is still not working.
January 17, 2019 at 4:27 pm #463743I have now deleted the inactive profile in Virginia and changed the map pin on the single active profile in Virginia. Still no luck.
January 18, 2019 at 10:45 am #463904To find results in Alexandria in search results for “Virginia” the search distance needed to be increased here :
wp-admin/admin.php?page=geodirectory&tab=general_settings&active_tab=search_settingsGD – Settings -General – Search – Search settings – Limit squared distance area to X miles (helps improve search speed)
I updated the settings, and disabled the Google options so the address updates on the form.
You can adjust the search options to meet your needs. -
