I want to understand better what is possible regarding search results sorting.
Here is my scenario. My Directory has restaurants, bars, retailers and breweries.
If I use the search widget and select ONLY a location [new york (city)], My directory search results lists a correct set results… here is the URL
https://www.urbansake.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&sgd_placecategory%5B%5D=&s=+&snear=&set_location_type=3&set_location_val=892&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=However, there seems to be no way to further sort or adjust the order of these results.
They display alphabetically by business name from Z—>A. There seems to be no way to change this order. Some listings are “featured”. Some listings have 5 star reviews, but these do not appear higher in search results. Nothing I have done yet seems to affect the sort order of search results.
Is there a setting I’m missing?
Thank you!

I’d like you to go through this article first as it covers this topic https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/searching-and-browsing/ and if you still have further questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks!
November 1, 2017 at 2:08 pm #403643Hi Kor! thanks for the reply.
I just read the support docs you linked to in detail. thank you!
One thing that is still not clear to me: If I read the support doc correctly… If I search my directory by Location only and start to type New York and then select “New York (City)” from the auto suggest, according to the support documentation, shouldn’t search find the geographical center of NYC (something like central park) and give results from that point? However, I am seeing all of NYC results listed by business name sorted Z–>A. I’m not sure where the Z–>A alphabetical search is coming from.
Is there any way to make a listing “sticky” so that it will always appear at the top of search results? I’m guessing this is not possible?
thanks in advance for any feedback!
TimothyNovember 1, 2017 at 4:38 pm #403657Hello!
Have you also looked at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/ ?
The sort options are “per CPT”
Visit a CPT and visit Sorting. Add your sort options there.
Featured or “Sitcky” is a Payment Manager option for packages. A listing package that is “Featured” will make the listing float to the top when the package is active. The common use is to make a listing Fatured for a specific durection and auto-expire the package after 30/60/X days.
We are always looking for feedback on how we can improve UIUX options, so let us know how these work for you and what you think might help even more.
Are you using “Near Me” results? How is that working for you?
November 4, 2017 at 1:41 am #404104Hi Alex,
“near me” results work great. No problem at all.My issue is when users selection location only with no geolocation active. it seems to sort Z–>A with no other way to sort.
thanks,

When I enter “go” it doesn’t seem sorted Z-A.
Are you sure you have adjusted the settings in the screenshot already?
GD > CPT > Sorting Options
