Hi, I would like to add tags to a location. I’m wondering how the tags work. For example, If I added ABC company and then a tag under that company for another company name CDE company. If I do a search for CDE company, should ABC company show up? That is not working for me and I’m wondering how tags actually work.

I’ve added some services and would like also to add tags but I don’t see an option. For example: the official name of a service might be ‘catering’ but some may refer to it as ‘food service’. Can ‘catering’ be tagged as ‘food service’ so if someone types it in they will be brought to ‘catering’ or do we need to add both ‘catering’ and ‘food service’?

    thank you!

    Hi Micheal,

Thanks for your post. Both tags and categories are types of taxonomies. However, every listing requires categories and tags are optional. Categories can have parent category with child subcategories. But with tags, there are never any parent/child relationships.

Thank you – can you tell me how tags work with regards to searching?

The GD Search will look through title, description, category, and tags.

Please share an example of a search by sharing the search results URL, and a link to a listing that you think should be included in the search results.

Hi, I did get the tags to work, that’s excellent.

However, I could not get the search working for words in the category description. (I think that’s what you meant). For example, I have a category called blood work and in the description I added ‘diagnostic imaging’. so when I do a search for ‘diagnostic’ I don’t get a result. You can see the screenshots attached. It’s likel that I misinterpreted your explanation too 🙂

p.s. I can’t provide a link as we are behind a firewall – this is just a test site.

The category description is not searched, just the category name.
