tags vs category vs custom field

    Hi,

    1.I want to add features to listings of a lawyer directory such as:
    – languages spoken (should be able to FILTER for it in search results and should be displayed on detail page)
    – free consultation (should be able to FILTER for it in search results and should be displayed on detail page)
    – has a mediator license (should be able to FILTER for it in search results and should be displayed on detail page)
    – experience in years (should be able to SORT in search results and should be displayed on detail page)
    – list of various memberships the lawyer is part of (list in detail page)

    Should I use tags? categories or custom fields for the above?

    2. Can i also have NO categories? Its a divorce laywer directory and there are no different types.

    Hi,

    I’d use custom fields for all, to filter search results by custom fields you will need the Advance Search Add-on.

    At leat 1 category is mandatory. You can use jQuery to autofill it in the add listing form and hide it. But it’s needed.
