I have a fresh install of v2.. nothing more. Is there a proper (or easiest) way to upload 1000s of businesses to my site so they’re in the categories/locations I currently don’t have created? If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be appreciated. thank you

    Hi realist,

Thanks for your post. The best way to do this would be to import the listings and here is the section of the documentation for your reference https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/

could you explain or give me an example of this?

Create and configure your Custom Post Type

    Prerequisites
Create your Custom Post Type (or use the built in places CPT).
Add all the Custom Fields you need for your CPT.
Add a test listing to make sure all your Custom Fields look and behave as expected.
Make any necessary changes to the Custom Fields, including re-ordering the fields.

and is this saying I need to make Categories before Importing?

    Create Categories

Categories are required. Each category requires the Name, slug, and a map icon. Any category referenced in your import must first be created (completely) in your site under the Custom Post Type that you want to use. See the Categories doc for more info.

If I use the Sample CSV as a template.. what adjustments do I need to make so it’s a smooth transition to import into my site.

You can just use the Places Custom Post Type, or create a new one with the Custom Post Types addon.

    About categories, yes.

Do not use the sample CSV template, use the listings export. If you use the sample, you will need to adjust it to make it match the export CSV exactly.
