Thanks
April 19, 2016 at 7:46 pm #166453Hi Paolo,
I’m in a bit of a quandary.
I swapped to shared hosting very briefly and because of the issues I had with go daddy not backing up the site (long story!!!!) I got a refund for the year and am currently on managed wordpress again for a couple of weeks until I decide what to do.
I read your article properly tonight and I’ve been researching my options.
In the article it says Geodirectory doesn’t work well on shared hosting or managed wordpress and you recommend Cloud Hosting.
I had a look at Cloud Ways but their reviews don’t seem fantastic. Also the research I did suggests there are more security issues with cloud hosting? I am still learning and I think it may be too advanced for me at this stage.
I think a VPS or dedicated server is just too expensive for me / too advanced, given I’m starting up.
My concern is if I dedicate anymore time to GeoD (even if I’m on shared hosting) which may be slightly better than managed, I will run into more problems down the line. For example shared may be much slower as the site grows.
I’m still not sure if the duplicated fields on the add listing page (category, location) is down to being on managed wordpress, as when I switched to shared it was still the same.
If you can make any suggestions, I’d be grateful.
April 19, 2016 at 8:13 pm #166454Hi,
we use Cloudways for our demos and we really can’t complain. Compared to GoDaddy is paradise IMO.
They use cloud instances of Digital Ocean, Amazon or Google Cloud and manage them for you.
It is super easy to use from 1 single control panel, it is scalable and it works. There is only one problem with their mysql manager that doesn’t paginate tables if you have too many, but that will never ever be your problem.
Shared hosting will work too, but it will be slow, because you are sharing your server with other hundreds if not thousands of websites.
If one is slowing down the server, it will slow down every other website running on it.
The double fields will probably appear on any server you install your back up now, until you don’t give us all credentials needed to fix it. (which as I say won’t take long).
Once you’ll be finally on a good server, the problem will no longer come up.
Thanks
April 22, 2016 at 8:53 pm #168977Hi Paolo,
I’ve moved to another company onto shared hosting and my site is up and running.
What details do you need so you can take a look?
Many Thanks,
Emma

It is the bootstrap select included in the theme trying to turn the select into a bootstrap select, i have added some JS under GD>Design>scripts to remove the extra ones right after they are added.
Let me know if its working for you 🙂
Thanks,
Stiofan
April 24, 2016 at 9:30 am #169972Hi Stiofan,
I’ve just had a look. thank you, the duplicate fields are now gone. 🙂
Unfortunately its still taking me back up the page to Tags and category when I click review listing.
It then says this field is required but its not clear which field it is and all the fields with a red marker are filled out?
