We’re migrating from v1 to V2 and noticed that some of our urls changed, specifically these:
https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/water-damage-1/
is now:
https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/category/water-damage-1/
How can we prevent the category base from being there? We want to keep all our urls the same. I tried removing ‘category’ from the category base field in the permalink settings but it says its required.
October 2, 2019 at 8:50 pm #511325Hi there,
Thanks for your post. This is related to your permalinks. Refer to this section of the documentation https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/permalinks/ for your reference.
October 3, 2019 at 12:41 pm #511401Thanks for the documentation – may I ask which part explains the change from v1 to v2, and shows how to remove the category slug from the permalink? I think I must be missing it.
October 3, 2019 at 11:32 pm #511516The category base slug is required. To remove it would require a customization outside of what we can help with here in support.
October 4, 2019 at 1:48 pm #511612Ok – what about the redirects, because it seems there are issues:
https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/california/anaheim-ca/mold-1/ > https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/california/alta-loma-ca/california-certified-mold/ – These are the same places, one is a category page, the other is a detail page
https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/georgia/atlanta-ga/mold-1/ > https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/georgia/cumming-ga/georgia-water-fire-restoration/
Same result, a place category to a detail listing, not the same page
https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/missouri/kansas-city-mo/mold-1/ to https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/category/mold-1/missouri/kansas-city-mo/missouri/kansas-city-mo/
This one attempts to redirect to a new place category, but failed to match?
This is all because of the new permalink/url structures in wpgeodirectory. We have an existing website as you can see, and if these redirects arent accurately handled, it makes a mess. This happens to all our categories and locations:
https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/fire-damage-1/ to https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/fire-damage-1/ – broken 404
October 4, 2019 at 2:46 pm #511623Have you already enabled the option in
GeoDirectory – Settings – General (tab) – Developer – Show advanced – Enable 404 rescue
Try that and if it doesn’t work for you please share WP Admin credentials in a private reply so we can check the settings.
October 4, 2019 at 3:01 pm #511625Yes – that is enabled and is whats causing the bad redirects. If I take it off (the setting), they all just 404 🙁

Thanks for your reply. Yes, you can remove the /%category%/ from the permalinks as shown in the attached screenshot.
October 7, 2019 at 5:58 pm #512014Old URL: https://www.restorationlocal.com/places/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/fire-damage-1/
There is no redirect then, and the new version will 404
https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/fire-damage-1/ – broken 404
We have 404 rescue setting in place too. Thoughts? its trying to redirect to https://wip.restorationlocal.com/places/category/fire-damage-1/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/pennsylvania/philadelphia-pa/ which seems like its duplicating the region and city

Thanks for your reply. You need a redirection plugin to help with this. Changing the permalinks will not redirect the old links for you.
October 8, 2019 at 10:20 am #512098Hi coreyhammond,
In GDv2 we have implemented category & tags base slug because in GDv1 we seen issues of identify listing & category urls.
In GDv1 listing url and category url are almost same so rewrite urls shows incorrect page when category & listing slugs are same.Let us know.
