Hello,
Trying to update v1 to v2. Testing this on a staging site with less than 1000 listings.
Process:
Uploaded new v2 plugins (base, location, advanced search, payments)
Made sure conversion message was set right and ready to go.
click to update/convertsome info changes. admin tabs, GD settings layout, new Places dashicon, etc…
Yet no default location comes across. No pages are listed as set. I don’t see the tabs that had my custom CSS.
The message remains: “GeoDirectory data update – Your database is being updated in the background. Taking a while? Click here to run it now.”
It doesn’t actually seem to update. How long should it take? I clicked to ‘run it now’ (like three times).
This initial process was completed more than 30 minutes ago.
The Status shows GD v 2.0.0.39, but db v = 1.6.36
Guidance?
Thanks.

It seems you have disabled running WP CRON on the site via wp-config.php. WP CRON should be active to run GD v1 to v2 conversion.
You have too many plugins(154 plugins) installed on site which taking too much time to load. Please try to disable unnecessary plugins during conversion to speedup conversion. Please create new staging site and try conversion again. Please follow instruction listed here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/installation/#convert
Also disable any customization done for GeoDirectory. If you face issue again then we need phpMyAdmin credentials to look where it stuck.
Let us know.
Thanks,
KiranDecember 6, 2018 at 6:22 pm #457391Yes, we disable to default cron and set up a custom cron to help with site performance. We can reset that for the update.
Please don’t tell me I have too many plugins, that is not your place. Of those plugins, less than 100 are active (others are off and on, as needed), and we use selective script loading functionality to reduce the plugin stack load and any impact on performance.
And it’s not like we’re on shared hosting, so we account for the plugin stack via server and cache settings as well.
Lastly, I don’t have “unnecessary plugins” – if they were unnecessary, they wouldn’t be there. I could just as soon say the five WPGeo Directory plugins were unnecessary. But we want them, so they are necessary, and they are there.
I had already deactivated the WPGD custom plugin I had created for customizations.
I’ll recreate a staging site and run it again. We’ll see what happens.
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the support we get from WPGD, and that is why I just re-subscribed for another year. But please try not to pontificate in the provision of support. Thanks.
December 7, 2018 at 7:25 am #457431Hi, I am facing the same issue ‘GeoDirectory data update – Your database is being updated in the background. Taking a while? Click here to run it now.’, have been getting this message since days. As I am just starting work on a new site, I don’t really need anything to be carried over from the previous installation. Will deinstalling and then directly reinstalling V2 help?
Thanks!December 7, 2018 at 7:26 am #457432Sorry, just realize am supposed to create a new post… l ignore the above.
December 7, 2018 at 9:32 am #457445Hi Mitch!
I think Kiran was trying to be helpful, and providing advice for your conversion. If you run the conversion on a staging site you don’t need any other plugins except GD. Make sense? Apologies if there is any confusion, we just want your conversion to be successful.
Let us know how it goes
December 7, 2018 at 5:52 pm #457543Hey Alex,
I get what you are saying, but my point was I didn’t need someone to tell me I “had too many plugins” and imply some “weren’t necessary” – that wasn’t helpful.
And while I understand that I can run the conversion on staging without other plugins, I need to do this as a test run on staging with all the same plugins that are on the live site so when I try it on the production site I know what to expect.
Interestingly, after I logged out and came back to it the next day, the database conversion was completed.
But I expected it to reset the same pages I had for v1 and reset the same default location, and neither of those things happened.
I thought I had kept up on the blog posts about this conversion, but I may need to go read some more. I’ll continue to leave the live site on v1 until I get a better feel for how all these changes impact my expectations.
Thanks.
