I’m setting up a new directory and still familiarizing myself with v2.
In my settings, it seems I can unselect categories so that the listings don’t need to fall into categories, is that correct?

And if I do need to use categories, can I assign specific geographic areas such as provinces (for a Canadian directory) to the categories?

Also: is there a setting in locations so that the map that comes up before a search or – when people are creating a listing – before they input their address, that automatically geolocates to where the user is rather than having to input a generic place?

Categories are required. Your directory will not work if listings do not have categories.

You can use place names as categories, certainly. You may end up with duplicate slugs, or names ending in -1 because categories and locations both must be unique in the database.

You can add a map to any page you like with the GD Map element, including the search page.

Geolocation is not available on the add listing form, but that is an interesting idea and we will look at it for future versions.

In the future please post GDV2 related questions to the appropriate V2 subforum.
