Apologies if this has been asked before, but I’m looking for some advice.

I’m setting up a new location based directory for businesses where people can (for a fixed annual fee) have a business listing.

My challenge is what stage to actually charge people.

On a previous website I let people create a login for free and then charged them for each listing they submitted. The problem with this is due to the spammers out there, lots of people were creating logins, submitting listings but not paying for them; meaning lots of admin to remove the spam accounts and listings.

Ideally I’d force people to pay to create a user profile on the website. I’m not sure what best plugin to use for that. The other challenge would be how you stop people creating more than one listing without manually checking each one.

    Any advice more than welcomed.

    Hello,

You have a full membership, so, why not just install the pricing manager and WP Invoicing and start charging from the beginning?

Instead of a free package, require a payment of $1.

Reserve the “featured” status for paid listings and give them priority on category pages by sorting featured first.

To deter spammers be sure to install GD ReCaptcha, and UsersWP + UsersWP ReCaptcha
