+1 for universal search box, I think this will cause a lot less pain for the user to search and find what he wants

Search is the first negative feedback I get everytime I show my site to friends and users. They say it should only have a single search box that searches custom post types and/or location since most of them don’t know the business or place name. If a universal search cannot find multiple custom post types in a single search box, then perhaps we can leave the CPT option as is.

I’m not saying get rid of the current search options. I am just saying add another option where we can have a universal search box somewhere. Perhaps the GD Header Right widget area is a good spot for this.

Listing comparison addon where users can compare listings with custom fields side by side (e.g., price comparison).

What results are obtained using the default WP search box, or an advanced version of it?

Type ahead on the “Near” search box so users know what is available for cities or zip codes.

I wish that if a video was used, it could be the top of the listing details page instead of the photo carousel.

Currently, if a video embed is entered, a tab is created called “video” which is OK – but a video sells better than photos, so if the person/business listing has a video, it should be the first thing people see up top.

    Advanced handling of “featured listings”

I tested showing Popular Post View sorted by “Featured” on the homepage with a sampling of listings marked as featured. While the featured listings were listed ahead of regular listings, they seemed to be set in order. I couldn’t tell if this order was based on location/proximity, listing recency, or some other factor.

Either way, it could be useful to be able to add additional configuration, separating out the types of listings from how they are presented so that various configurations could be possible:

    • Featured ahead of regular, both randomized
    • Featured only, showing newest first
    • Featured first, randomized; followed by regular listings, proximity order
    • Featured mixed with regular, proximity order

At the very least, hopefully this is based on proximity.

The real value here is in the upsell for featured listings. Especially if it isn’t based on location, but on newness or some other setting, those featured listings that fall off the first view lose a lot of value to justify higher fee.

Use Glyphicons for stars instead of star.png which masks a colored in div.

The current setup only allows for white backgrounds – otherwise the star.png file must be remade to match the background of the theme.

But on top of that – if there happens to be a lot going on in the theme – sometimes the color loads first, then the .png starts load on top…

It would be way better to make the stars glyphicons which change their font color on mouseover / on selection etc no?

I am posting this “wish” without having read all the previous ones, so my apologies if it has been mentioned already.

In the search bar where it starts with a drop down menu with the post types, can you make it so when you select the category it doesn’t immediately jump to that post type’s archive page before you have a chance to type in “Search for” and “Near” and click “search”? It really should just narrow your keyword search to that post type.

    Thanks!

    Boolean Widgets

Easy ability to create and add a boolean based widget box into any area of the site.

    For example:
    – free listing vs. paid listing, or bronze or silver package vs. gold package…use to show advertising or related listings on the listing detail page, or not for paid/premium listers.
    – content based on verified owner status, or business owner vs. regular user.
    – related content not equal to listing category; example, on a listing detail page for a restaurant, don’t show other restaurants, but do show other nearby category listings; or show specific types of content such as events and attractions only.

The simple example here is that you don’t want to have someone pay to list their sushi restaurant and then show 3 other competitors on their listing page.

    cheers

    A SIDEBAR SPECIALY FOR EVENTS,

we had it for GT we want it for GD.

A sidebar for top, main, right, left | Listing, search, detail and so on. With that you can control better whats only for the event section.

For example if you want the calender to be only shown in the event parts.

I have this nice weather plugin, I want it to be shown only in the detailed area of the event spots, thats not possible at the moment 🙁

I’ll second Roger’s request. The map really should be able to show more than one custom post type at a time.

I would like to add this one for consideration as well…

The “Popular post view” widget (which is the widget most of our homepages use to display listings) should have the ability to show all custom post types. This would be really beneficial if you are running numerous CPT’s and want to easily display the latest listings, featured listings or highest rated listings across all post types.

If you like this idea please support it by heading over to the thread where I covered this need and giving it a bump! > https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/widget-that-pulls-from-all-post-types/#post-7073

    Thanks!

I would love the see the ability to turn custom fields into tabs on the details page. For example, if I were to add a custom field textarea to a post type I’d like the option to have it display in the same way videos and special offers do. Furthermore, it would be helpful if we could turn on and off tabs for each post type, so if we wanted to hide the map or reviews on certain post types we could.

    @ KABAZZ
You can do that now. You can add an extra tab by selecting Show on detail, page for the custom field, see
