hi,
I am translating my website http://www.salseros-international.com from English into French using a po.file.
I have put the po. and mo. files in the pluginsgeodirectorygeodirectory-languages folder and saved the files as: geodirectory-fr_FR.po and geodirectory-fr_FR.mo (in the same folder where I have downloaded the geodirectory-en_US.po
But:
the French translation does now appear on my website.
I have tried to go into wp-config.php and find the (‘WPLANG’, ”) and change it to (‘WPLANG’, ‘fr_FR’), but I don’t find it in the wp-config.php file.
Could you please be so kind as to helping with this issue. How can I have my FR translation activated on my site?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
BeatriceJune 18, 2016 at 6:24 am #210932Hi Beatrice, that is not the correct location [it will be deleted with the next update].
WPLANG is no longer used, go to your WP general settings and you will find the language at the bottom of the page.
Have a look here for the correct location, which is /wp-content/languages/geodirectory/geodirectory-fr_FR.mo:

I have put the files in the right place already, haven’t I?

Thank you in advance.

/wp-content/languages/geodirectory/geodirectory-fr_FR.moYou have them in
/wp-content/plugins/geodirectory/geodirectory-languages/geodirectory-fr_FR.moHave another look at the documentation, point 4 of https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translate-core/
June 19, 2016 at 5:18 pm #211770Now my files are in /wp-content/languages/geodirectory/geodirectory-fr_FR.mo. But it is still not working.

June 20, 2016 at 6:10 pm #212409This reply has been marked as private.June 21, 2016 at 12:31 pm #213124The directory /www/wp-content/languages/geodirectory does not exist and I cannot find any language files anywhere.
You might have created them on your computer but maybe never uploaded them to the server.I added some files from another website to it, and also created a copy of your home page for the french version, so you can see the result.
June 21, 2016 at 1:15 pm #213183Hi, the content has been mixed up. The events that are supposed to appear in the ‘festivals’ category have disappeared and been replaced by events that are not supposed to appear there.
How can I upload the file onto the server? All of my files for my website are stored in my google drive.
June 21, 2016 at 1:33 pm #213192Could you please be so kind as to correcting the content on the French version?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
BeatriceJune 21, 2016 at 9:52 pm #213465The events have not “disappeared”/”appeared”.
The English version of your site will only show events that are submitted in English, and the French part of your site will show events that are submitted in French.
That is why http://salseros-international.com/
is different than
http://salseros-international.com/fr/
So the change on your site is only because you do not have many bi-lingual listings, not because I have done anything at all.You will need to get familiar with FTP.
Here is an article to get you started: http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-ftp-to-upload-files-to-wordpress-for-beginners/
Filezilla is highly recommended as FTP software: https://filezilla-project.org/June 22, 2016 at 4:41 am #213595OK, I am going to learn how to use ftp to upload my files.
Could yuou please be so kind as to undo what has been done on my website as I prefer to have the same posts displayed in both English and French version?
Plus, I can see that the French translation of the core gd is not complete. For example, “recurring dates” is not translated.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best,
BeatriceJune 22, 2016 at 9:36 am #213653I have deleted the version for your French homepage, so it is just where it was before.
But I think you misunderstand how WPML works, you will need a page for each language or it will not work. But I restored it to the earlier position.“recurring dates” is not translated using the GD core language file, but the Events addon translation file, see https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translating-addons/
