I recently installed GD onto a local host using WAMP and WordPress 4.7.3 following the directions in the video for the fresh install. All went well installing the GD theme, setting local location, downloading dummy data. But no matter what I try I can’t get the map to show up on the locally hosted version of the site. I tried all the usual trouble shooting measured, IE I ticked ‘post name’ and checked to make sure GD was the home page. Still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. -Dave

    Hi Dave,

Could you please make sure that you’ve setup the Google MAP API key correctly as mentioned here in this section of the documentation? https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/add-google-api-key/

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Kor. I double checked and the Map API key is correctly installed. I then went back and double checked all in the install guidelines. (Post name, default location etc). Everything is done correctly. But my homeepage only shows the words ‘GD Home Page’. When I go into the widgets section the ‘GD Home Top Section’ has the GD>Map-Home Page there with map width etc chosen. But its almost like the widgets aren’t working or wordpress isn’t reading the GD widgets. In fact this appears to be the case. I tried adding a calendar widget to the top of the front page just to see what would happen and…nothing. It appears the real issue here isn’t just the map not working, it’s the widgets aren’t working at all. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone else could weigh in on the topic of installing geodirectory on a local host. No matter what I do I can’t get the map to show. I thought it was just widgets not working in general but they seem to work. I have very carefully gone over the steps again and again and nothing. I tried installing the google maps widget (not the one associated with GD) and that worked right away so I know my API key is good and widgets will show…just not the GD map! Thanks in advance!

    Hi David.

You see any javascript errors in your browser console?

Hi Giri, I’m getting an ‘invalid key’ error. I generated a new key and tried that and still get the same error. Is there any difference in using an API key on a production server vs localhost? But the weird thing is the old key worked with other plugins, such as google’s own maps plugin. I really want to use geodirectory (was a big fan of geotheme) but I need to be able to work with it on a localhost. I’m using WAMP by the way as my localhost. Thanks for your help!!

We all develop our themes and plugins in localhost. So it should work.

“Invalid Key” means something wrong with your Google API Console configuration.

Please create a new app with this instructions.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/add-google-api-key/

Also make sure there in no other 3rd party map plugin interfere with GD.

    Thanks

Thanks, I generated the API again, checked credentials, went over the steps of the install, turned off all plugins, and still not working, same error. But as I indicated, I have been able to use the same API key with success with other map widgets on the same local install. Any suggestions?

Can you view your source code of home page using “View Source” option of your browser and see how many times you load google maps API?

If you multiple API links then make sure all of them has the same API key.

If that still doesn’t work, please post your whole javascript errors here and attach the whole html source here.

    Thanks
