Have a question about featured listings showing up at the top of the results in search. The docs under tips and tricks recommend setting up a widget and filtering for featured listings.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/searching-and-browsing/

However, on this post on the forums it’s suggested that prices and payments add-on is able to do it.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/featured-listing-10/

It does not mention how to set it up on the provided link in that post: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/prices-and-payments-add-on-overview/

Is there a way to display featured listings at the top of the search results? If so, what’s the best way to implement it?

    Hello!

Please take a look at our blog post on the subject:

Only the first link is correct. As explained there, search is always by relevance.
Any sorting is only for Listings pages, not Search pages.

Because search results will always be ordered by relevance to the search criteria, any featured listings will be included in the search results using the same relevance to the visitors keywords used.
But you can add a Popular Post widget, filtered for featured listings only in the top section or sidebar etc.

    Thanks

Hi @guust – I’m confused. Are you saying that the link provided by Alex will not work? I would like the any featured listings to show up on top for any search criteria that is relevant.

Correct: search results will always be ordered by relevance
On a Listings page you can sort and order as you like, but if people search for something, they expect the search results to be relevant to their search.

Okay, so even following the post that Alex provided will not force package listings to be listed first regardless of the search criteria?

Correct, see also the note on that page:

At this point we will see our listings sorting by price in both listings pages and search (whenever a keyword or location isn’t searched).

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/how-to-sort-listings-by-price/

Which is a similar comment as at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/searching-and-browsing/

If a visitor clicks Search without adding any keywords, the results will be ordered based on the settings at GD > Place [or other CPT] Settings > Sorting Options tab.

I’m so sorry, but can you please clarify for me again? If the post that Alex provided is irrelevant and will have no effect on the way search results are provided, then why is the topic not deleted? It’s existence is extremely confusing if it’s not a possibility.

So just for confirmation, IF I follow the post that Alex shared, can I then FORCE the search results to prioritize the listings based on packages or is this entirely not possible with the current system offered by GD? I don’t understand why you say that it’s not possible, yet that post states that it is.

I understand why relevant search options should be listed based on search criteria – but as a selling point, featured listings should have the ability to take priority. Thank you.

That article is not relevant to your question, but it is highly relevant for sorting listings on the Listings page.

I don’t understand why you say that it’s not possible, yet that post states that it is.

Where does it say in that article that ordering by price package is possible on the search page (unless search criteria are not entered)?

I think you are confusing SEARCH and LISTINGS pages.

You can sort by price package on LISTINGS pages: https://wpgeo.directory/docs/places/hotels/

But not on SEARCH pages, those pages will be ordered as the visitor requested in their search criteria: https://wpgeo.directory/docs/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&sgd_placecategory%5B%5D=&sgeodir_dis_park%5B%5D=&s=+&snear=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

OH! Okay. Thank you. Since this post was specifically in related to the SEARCH page, I didn’t realize the the listing pages were mixed up in the responses here.

So to have results in a search page, shown with package sorting, it would only be possible if someone does a search without a keyword or location (meaning they would just click on the “search” button). But if they input a keyword or location, that will take priority and packages sorting would become irrelevant. Am I following this correctly now?

    Hello!

I’m sorry, it was a misread on my part as I was thinking about re-ordering on the Listing pages when I sent the link.
