    Hi,

I have installed custom post types plugin, because I was informed I could use this to add new elements to listings.

So for exmaple in your ‘Example Export CSV’ there is

    Post title
    Post_auth

    etc

but I need a column for VTS Number, and about ten others to show the class of MOT that a garage in the listing can provide.

Is this custom post type or something else I need to use?

    many thanks in advance.

    Hi,

custom post types allows to create new listing types other than the default Places.

What you need are custom fields and those are available for each custom post type.

Please read here for instructions on how to add custom fields: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/

Let us know how you went,

    Thanks

    Hi

Many thanks for that, I have looked through the help guide and it is very informative on what is contained within the Custom post creation, but there isn’t or doesn’t appear to be any guide on how to create new content for the listings.

For example I want to create

Opening Hours with options to enter Monday through to Sunday opening hours

Now if I have read the help guides correctly I create a ‘Fieldset’ called ‘Opening Hours’

but what I can’t see if where/how I add to that set ie monday, Thuesday Wednesday etc

Could you help a little more? many thanks.

    Hi,

it will be very hard to create a complete Business hours schedule with just custom fields.

I would look into this add-on Jeff (a fellow member) created: http://jeffrose.themetailors.com/tt/portfolio/gd-business-hours/

It’s a ready made solution and it even says if a listing is open or closed when visited.

    Thanks

nice one…that will stop me struggling 🙂

One other question then as all the garages I have which will be the listings, or places as you call them, have different levels of MOT service.

    So for for example:

Garage number 1 could have MOT level 1, 2, and 3
Garage number 2 could have MOT level 1, 2, and 5

Basically it is whether they are registered to MOT a car, Motorbike, Lorry or bus.

Would this be possible with Custom types? Ideally using a set of ‘motor related icons’

    Hi,

you could use a multiselect field for that: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#multiselect

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks, but I am not sure why I would want a multiselect field?

I want to display the data on a listing page as a list,

Like here: http://screencast.com/t/JqGTESSef is the listings and then here: http://screencast.com/t/7kRnxXtW in the specific garage page.

Obviously I want this to show visitors easily what the garage is offering, but also I want to import 2500 garages with this information.

Once I have uploaded all these garages, then when a new garage wants to sign up that i haven’t the information for, then obviously I can see where a multiselect would be handy in the registration form.

In that case probably better to create a field set and checkboxes.

You must create the fields in any case in advance or the importing in the system will not accept them.

In the documentation is exaplained how to show the fields in both listings pages and detail page: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#general (Show on listing page / Show on detail page)

Here you have examples of how to create icons with custom fields: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/custom-field-examples/

    Thanks

All I am asking for is help, I think you have a wonderful plugin and additional addons

Remember assumptions are the mother of cock ups!!!

    I cannot see how it works… http://screencast.com/t/SidPhA6R

    1) I searched for advance there isn’t advance at all, except for Advance Search.

So I ask again where do I find ‘advance’?

    2) As you will also see I tried ‘dragging and dropping’ Fieldset’ into MOt Types, it doesn’t work.

    3) I tried deleting existing elements they can’t be. Which I don’t need in MOT Types, I assume 🙂 they are default and I cannot get rid of them.

All I am asking for is help, I think you have a wonderful plugin and additional addons

Your guides are to me not instructional, just stating what is possible, not how!

    Hi Rob,

I’m sorry it must be my poor english.

    1) My original phrase was:

You must create the fields in any case in advance or the importing in the system will not accept them.

I meant that if you don’t create the fields before importing a csv file, any custom fields you enter in the CSV file will be ignored.

Custom fields are created in GeoDirectory >> Place Settings. (for places)
    I hope it’s clear now.

    2) You don’t drag and drop (that is used only to re-order elements in the right column), you simply click on it and it should appears on the right column as shown in the previous attachement. If it doesn’t please provide a url and admin credentials and I’ll have a look.

    3) You can’t remove default fields, but if you click on any to open its options, you will see that there is an option to disable them. Like described in the documentation.

    Let us know,

    Thanks

    Hi,

    No problem 🙂

I have created something, but I am not sure what!!

When I actaully add content to the custom type, I keep getting ‘Check open all hours’ as I have the Business Hours plugin… I don’t need that in the custom post type so not sure why that is there.

And for some reason I cannot add/choice the data I want to add to my one places, for places is a garage, not a place 🙂

Anyway, I think I am going to give up, I am looking at hiring someone to complete the task.

I don’t have time to figure out what is right or wrong or best way or even wrong way.

Many thanks for your help, I won’t be back for some time as long as I can find someone to set up the directory as I want it 🙂

    Regards

    Rob

If you want I can move this in the Jobs section of the forum. Someone already proficient with GD might be interested and available for custom work.

    Let us know,

    Thanks

    Hi,

That would be great,if you wouldn’t mind..

I need more work completed, but this is the minimum for the moment, I think once i get this I can import.

CAn I ask one final question, the importing, can it update as well? As I may need to add more content to existing listing later?

    many thanks for the help
