In the GDv2 Settings there are: Custom Fields, Sorting, Tabs, General, Search.
The Custom Fields in Custom Fields, are not the same as in Sorting or Search. Is this correct? And if correct, how is determined which fields are available in Sorting and Search?
Also, in Listings there is the option to add a Custom Field. But is there also an option to add a Custom Field for the whole CPT?
December 20, 2018 at 10:31 am #459430With regard to the formulation of the last question: create a Custom Field for the whole CPT… is better wording.
And where does the Custom Field that is created in the listing “go”? Not sure if these Custom Fields are of the same level/category as the Custom Fields in GDv2 Settings.
December 20, 2018 at 10:45 am #459434Have a look at the Advance settings of a custom field, you should see an option:” Include this field in sorting options”.
Custom fields are CPT specific. They will be available for all listings in one CPT only [unless you restrict with a Price package].
December 20, 2018 at 12:45 pm #459439Hello Guust, thx again. Your answer gave rise to more questions….
1. I found the “Include in sorting….”
2. I understand that Custom Fields are CPT specific, but can I create a new one?
3. If, per your comment, you would like to make a Custom Field specific for categories within a CPT through price packages, could you set the price to 0, as I will be adding the listings and not external parties?
4. How do the Custom Fields within a Listing relate to Custom Fields within the Setting?
5. Where do the Custom fields within a Listing show up?Thanks again….
December 20, 2018 at 1:14 pm #4594482. I understand that Custom Fields are CPT specific, but can I create a new one?
You can use any of the ones listed on the left hand side, similar to https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#custom
See also https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/places/custom/3. If, per your comment, you would like to make a Custom Field specific for categories within a CPT through price packages, could you set the price to 0, as I will be adding the listings and not external parties?
Yes, but if you add the listings yourself, it does not really matter, because you will be entering the data in the custom fields, so there would be no need to prevent some custom fields by way of packages.4. How do the Custom Fields within a Listing relate to Custom Fields within the Setting?
Not sure what you mean, I think you may be misunderstanding … ? Each CPT has its custom fields, for example category, address, phone, website address etc.5. Where do the Custom fields within a Listing show up?
Where you want them to show, for example in a tab, or sidebar, or listings page etc.
Similar to https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#showDecember 20, 2018 at 1:57 pm #459462Thanks again Guust!
2. Clear
3. If, per your comment, you would like to make a Custom Field specific for categories within a CPT through price packages, could you set the price to 0, as I will be adding the listings and not external parties?
Say within a CPT I have 5 categories with Custom Fields a, b, and c. But to Category 2 I would like to assign Custom Fields e, and f as well. I would then have to set up a price package (price doesn´t matter as I will be adding them myself) for Category 2, because that is the only way I can differentiate Custom Fields between Categories within a CTP. (This is how I understand your earlier explanation. Just want to check if I understand correctly.)4. How do the Custom Fields within a Listing relate to Custom Fields within the Setting?
I am probably misunderstanding but when you add a Listing there is the option to add a Custom Field. See image attached. I do not understand how that relates to Custom Field in Settings of GD as a whole.5. Where do the Custom fields within a Listing show up?
I think I understand where they show up for a Custom Field within Settings, but I do not see where the Custom Field within a Listing shows up.Thanks again.
December 20, 2018 at 2:05 pm #459465The image is of WP custom fields, they are not used with GD, you only use the GD custom fields.
If you add all listings yourself, just create your 5 categories, and 5 GD custom fields.
Then when adding a listing, you only populate the fields you want to use for a category.
As simple as that, no need to complicate more.Making sense?
December 20, 2018 at 2:19 pm #459469Thank you for clearing up the confusion.
– Get the part about WP custom fields.
– If you want extra custom fields for one category, just do not populate those fields in the other categories.Makes total sense. The second is a paradigm shift, which I now cannot unsee anymore. Simple as that indeed 🙂
Thank you for helping Guus 🙂
