    Hello,
in the settings of my CPT I have activated some sorting options (see screenshot).
I thought that the activated sorting options will then be displayed to the user in the search bar on GD search page. However, none of the activated sorting options is displayed in the front end.

Is that how it should be?

How can I give users the option to sort listings (A-Z, Z-A, best ratings first…)?

Sorting options apply to Archive listing pages only. Search results are always sorted by relevance and sorting options are not available.

    Hi Alex,
with search page I mean that page where all search results are shown, the list of listings on the left sinde with the map and the pins on the right (see screenshot).

With GDV1 I was able to allow users to sort their results on this page by certain parameters, like title A-Z/Z-A or by “best reviews first” or prices ascending or descending.

Is there a way to enable users to sort search result listings like this with GDV2?

    Hi Alex,
one more question… you and the documentation say:
Search results are always sorted by relevance.

    Does this happen automatically?
When is a listing relevant resp. not so relevant?

    Best regards
    Birgit

Yes, if a searched word occurs in title, description, category or tags it is deemed relevant, with less points assigned down the that list, and a few more points if it is featured and the word occurs.

    Hi Alex,

thank you for your response, I am still not quite sure wether I understand this correctly. So I would be greatful if you answer my questions:

    1. Is there really not a single option for a user to sort the search results by title or rating or distance from his location (like with HRS or TripAdvisor)? I remember quite well that was possible with GDV1.

    2. I am selling the featured listings (Premium) for a higher price because they will have the pole position in the search results. So in the sorting options I have the following settings to make sure
    – the Premium Partners are displaid first in a random order and
    – the following listings are sorted by rating (1st level) and title (2nd level)

    Featured (Premium) – ascending
    Random
    Title
    Reviews
    (also see 1st screenshot)

However, when a user searches a Venue in Frankfurt the search results are displaid strictly after distance to Frankfurt City Center. The Premium Partner is in the second position behind a free listing which is closer to the city center (see 2nd screenshot).

This makes the Premium package difficult to sell.

How can I make sure that within search near radius of 50 km (this is the distance in my GD search settings) premium/featured listings are definitely on top position in the search results?

Looking forward to your response and many thanks
    Birgit

    Hi Alex,

see sorting options for users at HRS, Yelp and TripAdvisor in the screenshots attached.

    And sorry, both features
    1. the sorting options for users as well as
    2. the ability to display premium/featured listings on top of the search results

worked very well with GDV1 and are really basic functionalities.

So how can it be that now with GDV2 you tell your clients that for that basic functionalities we have to pay your experts now?

The page I linked is their search page, for tripadvisor, not the one you link which is more like a location page or an archive page, which does have sorting. The Tripadvisor search page does not have sorting.
    Neither did V1.

To promote featured listings on the search page you can add a GD Listings element and filter to featured.

    Hi Alex,
maybe we have been talking about two different things regarding the sorting options. I am always a bit confused with the terminology and not quite sure what is the difference between the listing page and an archive page. What I mean seems to be the archive page – the page where all search results are shown to the user.

And I am 100% sure that with GDV1 I was able to add sorting options like price, rating, title to the main search bar for the user to sort his search results accordingly (just like at TripAdvisore etc.).
    Is that function gone now?

Regarding featured listings: I have got my sorting options set like in the screenshot, with featured listings first by default – on top of all sorting options. Why in the way the search results are displaid on the archive page is anything else (words, distance to near search radius, what ever… ) more relevant than this default sorting option I have put on the very top?

And really, this is an honest question: What is the sense of a featured listing if it cannot be shown by default in a prominent position?

Archive pages can have all those sorting options, just as in GDV1. In GDV1 they were referred to as “Listing” pages (WP refers to them as archive pages and we are trying to use the WP terminology now).

Featured listings can be at the top with a featured default sort on archive pages. This is setup in the sorting options as described at these links:

    Hi Alex,
I feel we are getting there 🙂 And thanks again for your patience.

Just one more question regarding the sorting options on the GD archive page in the frontend.
In the documentation I found that I must insert the shortcode [gd_loop_actions] to the GD Archive page to show sorting options in the front end (if I got that right).

In my GD Archive page there is this shortcode (see screenshot). But no sorting options like “Name A-Z” or “Best ratings first” are being displaid in the frontend. I was also looking for that Shortcode Builder, but on the GD Archive page there seems to be no icon to open the shortcode builder.

What am I supposed to do with this shortcode to display sorting options to the user in the GD Archive page?

If you have 1 or 0 sorting options conifgured then then the select will not show.
If you have more than one configured for the CPT archive in question, please share WP Admin details and we will take a look. Be sure to include a link.
