Little bit of a tricky one here about authors and users…
Since downloading the Geo Directory app and the recommended WPUsers, the /author/ pages are no longer working. These are a feature of my ColorMag theme. The page https://romanroadlondon.com/author/april-kosky/ didn’t load and then came up with a ‘too many redirects’ error page. I don’t mind replacing this with UsersWP but I have a lot of questions about this:
Keep Co-Author functionality Does UserWP offer a co-author functionality? I deactivated a plugin called Co-Authors that I use to credit both our journalists and photographers who together create our content.

This is an important part of our not-for-profit company as it’s part of our charitable objectives to showcase emerging talent from the local community.
This partly solved the broken /author/ pages. Now, https://romanroadlondon.com/author/april-kosky/ redirects to https://romanroadlondon.com/profile/april-kosky/. But I would like my Co-Author funcationality back. If UsersWP doesn’t offer it, is there a workaround?
Avoid redirects As per above, /author/ pages now redirect to /profile/ page. I don’t want a permanent redirect from all my /author/ pages to /profile/ pages as this will slow down site speed. How do I avoid this?
UsersWP for register and login Does UsersWP circumvents WP native Users completely? In the default settings, UsersWP > General > Register ‘When enabled /wp-login.php?action=register page will be redirected to UsersWP register page’ is checked. However in UsersWP > General > Login ‘When enabled /wp-login.php page will be redirected to UsersWP login page’ is not checked. Should it be checked as well?
Can we select UsersWP users for blog post byline? Should we now be registering our blog ‘authors’ in UsersWP? If so will users who have registered via UsersWP be able to be selected as the ‘author’ in my blog posts, and appear as a byline for my posts in my ColorMag theme?
WP native User roles I would like to keep the roles I use from WP’s native Users functionality eg Contributor for our writers, Editor for our inhouse team of editors, and Admin for the webmaster (making sure Editors can’t break the site). Will these work alongside UsersWP?
User profiles The /profile/ pages generated by UsersWP don’t seem to include the Users bio information. Do I have to copy and paste this over for all my 42 existing Users.
Managing UserWP profile Where can I edit individual UsersWP user? Unlike WP native Users, I can’t find a list of all Users in the backend. I have to go to https://romanroadlondon.com/users/ but that is there public facing profile. Where can I edit each one?
Keep GD Users out of User page With UsersWP the ‘Users’ page at https://romanroadlondon.com/users/ feature both my authors and GD listing users. How can I remove GD Listing users? These are nothing to do with my editorial team.
Thanks is probably enough!
Thanks for your patience.
Does UsersWp
February 20, 2020 at 5:48 am #531337Hello,
I will try to address all your questions.
Keep Co-Author functionality
This is not a feature of GeoDirectory or UsersWP.
Avoid redirects
In every case UsersWP will redirect to the profile page.
Can we select UsersWP users for blog post byline?
UsersWP has an ‘author box’ template that can be used to show author (user) information on every post. In order to use it the fields must be populated with information, so, yes, the fields should be filled.
UsersWP for register and login
It is an option to bypass all WP login and registration functionality, yes.
WP native User roles
UsersWP does not manage user roles. You will need another plugin to do that.
User profiles
It is possible to add fields, add those fields tot he account or register form, and to show those fields in tabs on the profile or in the author box or the users list (users list item template). To show the bio field visit the field in the form builder settings and set it to the users list item.
Managing UserWP profile
UsersWP does not change the functionality at WP Backend -> Users -> Edit. You can still edit user profile values from the backend.
Keep GD Users out of User page
It is possible to filter out users one by one, but I don’t think that page is a good choice for showing a select group. Instead you might do better to build a custom page with links to your editorial team profiles. There is not a way to filter out GD users.
February 20, 2020 at 5:15 pm #531447Thanks for all the above.
Where can I see a list of the users in the backend? I realise they are all visible in the front end at https://romanroadlondon.com/users/, but where can I manage and edit individual users in the backend? For example to change their admin role, user name or image etc.
Thanks
February 20, 2020 at 8:57 pm #531480UsersWP doesn’t change that functionality, you can still use the built in WP functionality at
WordPress Admin (backend) – Users – Hover over user and click ‘Edit’
February 21, 2020 at 6:52 am #531523Have you tried this setting:
UsersWP > General tab > Profile sub-tab > Show Advanced > Disable author redirect to UsersWP profile page > YES
Thanks
February 21, 2020 at 9:06 am #531543February 23, 2020 at 11:23 am #531787Hi @guust, unfortunately turning off the redirect by checking UsersWP > General tab > Profile sub-tab > Show Advanced > Disable author means the Tabs on the User profile pages get a 404 (they point to /author/ pages of my theme and are expeting a redirect to /profile/). Can we bypass this somehow? Can the Tabs go directly to /profile/ without us using the redirect? Probably not I guess!
Thanks!
TabithaFebruary 24, 2020 at 1:25 am #531865I am not sure I understand. Which tabs or links are giving a 404?
Can you provide more details including admin login details for your site in a private reply?
I cannot re-create this on my test site. Thanks

The redirect to the author page from the profile page is because of the Co-Authors Plus plugin. I cannot find any settings for that plugin.I’ll get Patrik to have a further look.
thanks
February 26, 2020 at 12:01 pm #532360Sorry about that!
Have you managed to have a look at the issue I raised on Feb23: “Hi @guust, unfortunately turning off the redirect by checking UsersWP > General tab > Profile sub-tab > Show Advanced > Disable author means the Tabs on the User profile pages get a 404 (they point to /author/ pages of my theme and are expeting a redirect to /profile/). Can we bypass this somehow? Can the Tabs go directly to /profile/ without us using the redirect? Probably not I guess!”
Also, did Patrik manage to find out why UsersWP is glitching with Co-Authors and if we can resolve this?
Thanks!
