I do not like the way that users create accounts. It leaves my site more susceptible to spam because anyone can make a fake email address and leave reviews over and over.
Is there a recommended way of changing the way a user account is created?
July 8, 2014 at 1:06 pm #7783how do u want it to work then ?
July 8, 2014 at 4:55 pm #7813Is it possible to configure it in a way where the user has to click a link to verify the account that would be sent to their email? The auto generation of the password is fine, however the fact that they log in immediately to leave comments could cause issues with spam and heavy administrative load. Or even an option to do either-or?
July 8, 2014 at 7:27 pm #7842Have you tried with 1 of the plugin forcing email verification? I’m not 100% sure it will work out of the box, but it is worth trying.
This is the 1st of the list: https://wordpress.org/plugins/dm-confirm-email/
There are many other…
Thx
July 8, 2014 at 7:51 pm #7846I actually did try this with Register Plus Redux and it made the registration process impossible. It threw up a ton of errors.
I will try this one though. Thanks
July 9, 2014 at 5:28 am #7861I brought this up previously – there should be a simple option available to choose whether or not we want users to be logged in after they register. We shouldn’t have to choose another plugin for registration?
I created a dummy listing on your demo site using a non-existent email address. It is a recipe for spam listings and I don’t want to be searching through listings to separate the genuine ones from spam listings on my site every day!
You were going to ask Vikas to look at it?
July 9, 2014 at 2:03 pm #7907Yeah, anybody with simple scripting knowledge could easily exploit or cripple a geodirectory webpage like this. I understand it is good for ease of use, but if the page’s content is quality, users won’t be too bothered by having to verify their account via email.
July 9, 2014 at 4:41 pm #7930I’ve flagged it for Vikas.
Just FYI, one of the part I personally don’t like about our product and I’m insisting that we must improve it very soon are:
Registration and user profile page (author page).
What we want is :
– a drag and drop registration form builder with custom field, avatar and so on.
– a profile page with user avatar, bio, contact info and any custom field the user created + tabs below the profile listing reviews entered and places or other CPT submitted.
– a searchable/sortable members directoryAdding requested options to the registration process while doing all the above shouldn’t be an issue at all.
July 9, 2014 at 7:15 pm #7945I’m sorry, but i honestly don’t even see a point to the authors page. I tried clicking on an author link and it just redirects to a page that can’t really carry any content…
Is it possible to remove links to authors pages until there is an update for Geodirectory that will give it some use??

Is it possible to add an Activity Wall after you’re done with the Author’s Page and Member Directory? It will be nice to have a wall showing recent activities on the site such as new listings added, updated listings, new reviews, new photos, new special offers, new members, etc. that are linked to the listing details page.

In GeoDirectory >> Listing Claims >> Show link to author page on listings?
Thx
July 12, 2014 at 4:01 am #8262@paolo, I’m just testing “theme my login” with GD and it appears to do everything you want to do with user admin in GD.

Suggest you have a look at it because it could save you a lot of work?
July 12, 2014 at 4:11 am #8263I was playing around with this earlier, did u have any luck configuring it with a verify email and eliminating the auto login at the time of register? I couldn’t find the settings out of the box.
I’ve also heard good things about the WP-Members plug in but haven’t had the time to play with it much.
