October 19, 2016 at 11:00 am in reply to: Updating Listing Address Details – Address and Map Problems #287615Hello There,
Well…. We finally gave up, and decided to scrap the entire website and start from scratch.
I took screen shots of everything, exported all the data I could [and when I opened up some of it like the exported place listings there was data missing against lots of listings, such as category details].
It took me a couple of weeks to fix up the corrupted data and reload everything but it has been a huge success, and everything is now working as it should.
It seems like something seriously ‘broke’ when we were transitioning from the GeoTheme to GeoDirectory [obviously we didn’t follow the process steps correctly, as we haven’t found evidence of anyone else having the same issues as us!]
Anyway, thought I’d drop you a line and let you know we’re back on track, and able to move forward again.
The problems have been with us since June this year when we first listed the query; ‘MultiLocations – Add Listing Functionality Issue’ – I can report that the problems associated with this problem have also been resolved now.
Effectively we lost four months while we weren’t making progress, and were unable to get our issues resolved, but we are finally back to where we were pre-GeoDirectory, and can now start moving forward.
Regards,

Any progress on my problem?
In the above thread Stiofan wrote something about defining my own Regions and Cities, but that some functionality would be lost…
What does potential solution look like?
I really need some form of solution to continue moving forward.

[I’ve just got up, and am about to leave for work]
Yes, the reason we want to set our own locations is because of the way New Zealand is defined by it’s regions. We have a total population of less than 5 million, and actually don’t have that many ‘cities’.
If you look at the attached file you will see that for the Region ‘Bay of Plenty’ we have defined 5 ‘Districts’ [rather than Cities]. Only two of these Districts are actually cities [Tauranga and Rotorua], the rest are areas made up of townships.
If you look at ‘Auckland’, which is New Zealand’s major city, it is broken up into a lot of smaller Districts, to have all the Auckland listings defined under ‘Auckland’ would just give too many results – it would be cumbersome and not user friendly at all.
We need a method that is consistent for users no matter what area they are searching within New Zealand, and defining by Regions and Districts we believe is best.
We want users to search based on these Districts, rather than the Cities or Town’s as the catchment of listings makes more sense from a structured end-user point of view.
What sort of Functionality do we lose if we define our own Regions and Cities/Districts?
Hoping we can find a workable solution 🙂

Sorry for taking so long to come back to you…
I have had a look at the listing and unfortunately the ‘marker’ is sitting on ‘Parton Road’ [exactly as per the screen shot in ‘Step 14’ of the previously attached file] – it’s not sitting on the ‘Gordon Spratt Reserve’. How do we get the marker to move to the desired location without the address details updating and then reverting back to the default settings?

Just referring back to Reply #199738 about adding listings from the front end…..
Yes it works as we want it to, However we need to add a couple more thousand listings ourselves before we can go live, and it seems odd that we can’t use the ‘add place’ from the dash board to do so.
Can we put in a request to have this function operating correctly from the dash board?? (so that the ‘front end’ and the ‘Back end’ work the same).cheers
Appreciate that, thanks!
Hi Guust,
I’ve added a listing from the front end as suggested, and that works much better – thank you!
What do you mean by ‘GD plugins should not be network activated, but on a per site basis’?
You are correct we have ours network activated, as our thinking is that we will have other sites that follow-on from the one we are building now, but they will be on the same network. Why are we not supposed to have it network activated? what effect does this have? if we deactivate the network plugins what effect will that have on what we have loaded/created on our site presently?
Sorry for all the questions, your response has confused me!
Much better to clarify and fix now though before we do a whole lot more work!
