    Hi There,

We are manually going through our Place Listings and updating the ‘Claim Listing’ to ‘No’ as following the transition to GeoDirectory the ‘Business Owner?’ selection disappeared on the website listings.
We have found that for some listings the address has also been lost, and when we update the ‘Claim Listing’ option to ‘No’ it requires us to enter the address and then the real problems start…. we can’t get the Listing to Accept and Display the correct Address Details.

    Hi Giri,

Sorry for taking so long to come back to you…

I have had a look at the listing and unfortunately the ‘marker’ is sitting on ‘Parton Road’ [exactly as per the screen shot in ‘Step 14’ of the previously attached file] – it’s not sitting on the ‘Gordon Spratt Reserve’. How do we get the marker to move to the desired location without the address details updating and then reverting back to the default settings?

I am in the UK/Ireland, i’m usually here from 9am-7pm.

There is a way to only define your own regions and cities but you lose some functionality, it’s best we get GD working right for NZ, sometimes we have to make little adjustments to the code as the Google API does not give consistent info, i’ll look at this now.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

“Tauranga” is not returned as any address parameter, i can find “Tauranga City” in an obscure way but it will be best if i work with you first to be able to see if this is a consistent return for all of NZ.

    Hi Stiofan,

[I’ve just got up, and am about to leave for work]

Yes, the reason we want to set our own locations is because of the way New Zealand is defined by it’s regions. We have a total population of less than 5 million, and actually don’t have that many ‘cities’.

If you look at the attached file you will see that for the Region ‘Bay of Plenty’ we have defined 5 ‘Districts’ [rather than Cities]. Only two of these Districts are actually cities [Tauranga and Rotorua], the rest are areas made up of townships.

If you look at ‘Auckland’, which is New Zealand’s major city, it is broken up into a lot of smaller Districts, to have all the Auckland listings defined under ‘Auckland’ would just give too many results – it would be cumbersome and not user friendly at all.

We need a method that is consistent for users no matter what area they are searching within New Zealand, and defining by Regions and Districts we believe is best.

We want users to search based on these Districts, rather than the Cities or Town’s as the catchment of listings makes more sense from a structured end-user point of view.

What sort of Functionality do we lose if we define our own Regions and Cities/Districts?

Hoping we can find a workable solution 🙂

    Hello,

    Any progress on my problem?

In the above thread Stiofan wrote something about defining my own Regions and Cities, but that some functionality would be lost…

What does potential solution look like?

I really need some form of solution to continue moving forward.
