Some further info, in case it may be relevant:
Under WPML Taxonomy Translation, I see slugs appearing with <category name>/category (e.g. “activity/category”).
Can’t recall having seen this before, might it be the “/category” the problem?
Now I see what you meant, the FA icon is alternative and will be used on the widget. That could work!

What I want is to keep the map markers as they are, but get a nice good looking icons for the category listing.

That’s weird. I was having problems before with a shared hosting and as per GD team’s recommendations moved to a VPS with a new hosting provider. Problems persist.
My new hosting provider – who has been providing a tremendous support – tells me this must be from the wordpress environment / plugins.
Bottom line question is: are such performance issues normal for a directory such as mine with about 20.000 listings, and yet no traffic? I suppose you have experience with demanding environments.
We may consider moving to a better performance VPS plan (8 or 16GB, quad-core, etc.), but need to know we are doing the right things on the platform side.
We have been postponing go-live due to performance issues…I have, but will go through the list again. But I wouldn’t expect that these optimizations would lead to such dramatic improvements. 10 seconds for a page load, on a website with still no visitors worries me a lot for when it goes in production…
In the meantime, could you find anything wrong looking at WP admin and FTP?This reply has been marked as private.What I would like to do is customize the top sidebar, so I have something like in GDv1:
– Featured image / logo with claimed and featured badges
– Badges on the right hand side, aligned by the right sidebarI am having lots of trouble with alignments; the alignment options on the widgets don’t produce same results, sometime left goes left of page, sometimes aligns at div, and so on.
At this point I am afraid the detail page is very poor design-wise – while I loved GDv1’s…
