Ok thanks Paolo. I will investigate if this is possible with CSS.

    Hi again Paolo,

having gone back and tested this again by adding more franchises, I realise that the current set-up works quite well: being able to just scroll back up after saving a franchise and then select to add a new franchise from the drop down is quite efficient. I would suggest the only improvement would be that after saving a franchise, text appears beside the Save button along the lines of: ‘Franchise saved – scroll back to the top to select the option of adding another franchise’ – otherwise a user might think they have to navigate via the home page to the main listing and click on the ‘Add a Franchise’ link again.

    Something for developers to consider?

    Thanks,
    Adrian

…. and I see that franchise expiry is now locked to main listing, with franchise expiry being set correctly even if submit/save pressed multiple times – which is great!

The only big issue that I now have with adding franchises (I think) is that when a (free) franchise is submitted then there is no progression beyond the listing submission page, thereby leading the person submitting the listing wondering: a) whether the submission has been successful and b) how best to navigate away from the page (especially of they have a number of franchises to add). It would be better if following the submission the user is taken to a page that says something along the lines of ‘Franchise listing submitted successfully – would you like to submit another franchise?’ with a ‘Yes’ button going to a blank franchise listing submission page and a ‘no’ button progressing to the front-end of the main listing (or general home page of website).

A minor issue is that fieldset titles appear in the franchise listing submission form even when there are no associated fields to add data (because they are locked to main listing). It looks a little untidy but I don’t feel that it is a significant problem.

Thanks to your developers for the work on my site over the holiday period! 🙂

Ah, sorry for flagging the issue of the unlocked fields I see that has been fixed now (I wasn’t notified it had been!) Thanks.

    Hi,

is there any news on the buggy issues I posted about? (I can wait to see how you resolve the issue of tying franchise duration to main listing).

The ‘buggy’ problems are: franchise duration being set at twice main listing duration; some of the locked fields not appearing for data when franchises added (see post #65015 on previous page). I am keen to have this resolved so that I can invite some of my contacts to add ‘showcase listings’ to the directory prior to launch.

    Thanks,
    Adrian

    OK – thanks Paolo.

The issue of listing duration is also a little different when franchises are included in the price package and consequently not charged separately (as in my case). I can see how if a customer pays for a franchise then they would expect a full duration listing, but as my franchises are added on ‘free’ (i.e., included) as part of the main multi-location listing package I would like their duration to reflect that of the main/parent listing.

I guess the issue comes down to: what happens to franchises once the main/parent listing expires/ is downgraded/ is removed. It would be handy if there was a backend setting that would allow admins to select (on a price-package by price-package basis) if franchises’ duration/expiry is tied to main listing expiry or not. Is this something that might be looked at? Inn the meantime I will have to manually keep track of any franchises added and downgrade their duration to match that of the main listing.

Just a few thoughts … it’s inevitable that something like franchises will be set up differently in different directories.

In any case, have a great festive holiday (if you manage to get time off)!

    Thanks Paolo.

I see this thread (original problem) is marked as resolved – should I start a couple of threads with the existing bugs so that they don’t get overlooked?

    Hello Guust,

I have just added another test franchise, (Ilsington Collection Point) ensuring that I pressed ‘Save’ only once – it was saved with 2 years duration. I made another test franchise (Exeter Collection point), pressing Save three times – it was saved with 4 years duration (so default is double the set duration period, with additional Save presses adding another duration period). So this is definitely something that needs looking at in order to ensure that: a) the correct duration is set when pressing save; b) it is not possible to inadvertently add extra time to the duration of the franchise listing (in this respect, would it be better to have the user directed to page such as ‘Thank you – would you like to add another franchise?’, rather than getting stuck on the add franchise listing where there is no separate charge for franchises due to them being included in the package?).

Also, there is another problem: although Public Point of Sale, Time and Twitter fields are set as not locked, they do not appear as options when adding a franchise (address and phone fields, also unlocked, do appear ok).

Would it be possible for your developers to have a look at these issues?

    Thanks,

    Adrian

… back to good once I re-connected the re-activated jetpack to wordpress.com – I thought I understood how custom CSS worked, but obviously not! (so it was indirectly related to trouble shooting the franchise problem – but nothing the Geodirectory team have done!)

    will continue testing franchise changes.

    Thanks,
    Adrian

… thanks to google, I think this may be due somehow to de-activating (and re-activating) the Jetpack plugin for testing and am investigating further …

Ahh, I’m having an issue with styling now and not sure if this is related to the work done on my site as part of investigating the problem, or coincidental, and relating to some other recent change to the GDF Modern Child Theme somehow:

Basically, the styling on the site appears to have changed subtly in a number of places and looking at my Custom CSS, the ‘style.css’ file seems to have changed: it has grown much larger and all of the little changes that I had made are gone.

I believe that I first noticed the change on the front-end while de-activating plugins to test what was wrong with franchises, so not quite a week ago: I noticed that the website title was now wrapping instead of extending on one longer line – a css change that had been made a while back and that the little grey shading bar had re-appeared on map listing pop-ups. All of my custom CSS now appears gone (the majority of which had been suggested to me by Geodirectory team to get over little issues such as forum formatting).

I understood (was told in these forums I believe) that custom CSS file for GDF Modern would not be written over as it is a child theme (of GDF). Can you please advise what has happened? Whatever it is has happened, I believe, over the last week, but may be unrelated to the franchise problem.

As you are aware, I am not a ‘seasoned pro’ when it comes to CSS and themes etc – so am wondering if something has changed relating to how custom css works with the recent WordPress update that I should be aware of? in any case i am baffled!

    Thanks,
    Adrian

Thanks Paolo (and pass my thanks to your developer),

I’ll do some testing, turn plugins back on, and then do a little more testing – I’ll get back with any further questions.

I will have to resume working on my site tomorrow, ideally activating one or two plugins (especially tablepress) – I hope that won’t interfere with your testing?
