Thanks for getting back Paolo (and I hope you don’t mind me chipping in on your thread manilaboy – but you nailed my issue with your original post).

I’ll admit I’m more than a little dissapoined by this situation – my expectations were that buying the upgrades I would be able set up a service and build a business offering free and premium directory entries in a relatively straightforward way – this is not possible, and appears to be a fatal flaw in the design of the whole Geodirectory buisiness-model. The fact that any free user can very easily just insert a link to their own website/face-book, and add any other premium value text content they like to the description box severely undermines any premium ugrade incentive. This is not good.

Looking back at the description of the prices and payments addon at your website, it states: “The prices and payment manager addon allows you to easily monetize your directory”. I noted and acted on the ‘Easy’ bit in that sentence when deciding to go ahead and purchase! Also, it states:

“You can also change the fields that are shown per price package so for example a free package might only contain a title and description with 1 or no images allowed, where as a premium package might include contact details, special offers, menu download field etc.”

This is misleading! It implies that free users cannot add contact details – which they can (as well special offers, menus etc!) in the decription field. I would be happy if the free package offered only a category (or maybe even tags) description, along with location.

So – that’s my frustration vented. If I have misunderstood the settings on Geodirectory and am able to achieve what I want then please forgive my rant and show me how this can be achieved.

Otherwise I will have to deal with the situation as it is. I am happy to have the extra data recorded on the Add Listing form so would think that that means that area of code could be left well alone – I would just like to restrict what data is displayed for a free listing (on the pop up box on the map when an icon is clicked – and on any pages that result from clicking on that box/link or from a search) – presumably this would require attention to code associated with the Detail page and associated widgets?

I suspect I will have to get an expert developer involved, but would like to talk to/negotiate with them from an informed perspective. If Geodirectory wasn’t otherwise a very good and promising product I would be walking away from it after my trial suscription.

    Thanks Paolo,

can you give some pointers for someone who is not a WordPress expert but is climbing a learning curve and game to have a go at coding?

    Hello,

I am having problems eith this too – and lots of looking around the various options available as well as searching the support forums hasn’t led to a solution …

I would like to restrict free listings to having just a location on the map and a telephone number – NOT to have a description, or any tabs, or any fields visible that would allow a website/email/facebook etc details. I don’t mind if they can enter this info with a listing – I just don’t want it visible on a free listing – otherwise how can I encourage a premium upgrade?!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    OK – it’s fixed.

Thinking about having to supply a password for the backend focused me a little after having spent a little time recently getting up to speed on security do’s and don’ts (nothing personal Simone!) – that and clearing my head with a little walk.

I found that GDF Options -> Header Style Options, towards the bottom there is the option to disable the WordPress admin bar – this appears to have been set disabled as default when I installed GDF – changed now and admin bar back.
    Thanks for your time.

That’s a good work-around in the short-term, thanks, but I don’t want to lose the ability to go directly between front and back end – e.g., when navigating around front end and clicking on ‘edit page’ to update pages!

… of course, it’s just the top bar that should be visible when viewing the page, and not the left bar – but it isn’t.

    Hi Stiofan,

I made the change, but clicking on the T&C link now opens up a new ‘submit a listing’ tab rather than a T&C text window – should I be able to add my own T&C to a text box somewhere and have that pop-up when I click on the link?

    thanks
    Adrian
