Ok – I’ll wait until I approach that no. of listings before considering server-side clustering.
Tell me though, how do I check for Javascript errors while turning back on the various twitter-related and other plugins – is it something to do with right-click (Inspect Element) in Firefox? I couldn’t see anything in de-bugger pane.
Finally – back to where I came in: the custom search based on multiple fields. Now that the site is back to normal, I tried it again and it isn’t working. I think this is an issue with the individual fields rather than combining them in the custom search. If you try a custom search for either ‘Accepts Visits – yes’, ‘Local Deliveries – yes’ or ‘National Deliveries – no’, then the MW listing is not found in the search (whether ‘near to me’ or in Region: Devon searches) – despite having all these values. If you click on the Moor Wholesome entry to get the full listing, you will see that the side panel for the listing gives the correct info for local deliveries and national deliveries, but the values/answers for these same fields are not provided in the ‘Outlets & Delivery’ Tab of the details. (the ‘accepts visits’ field can be seen under the ‘Assurance Details’ tab – where the value/answer IS given, despite it not being registered in the custom search.
Thanks,
Adrian
I deactivated the Tweet This plugin (updated 23rd Oct), and deactivated the Invite Anyone plugin, which was updated yesterday. I have also removed Jetpack sidebar Twitter timeline widgets from pages and deactivated the associated Jetpack Extra Sidebar Widgets component. I believe I am only using GD twitter widgets now. I don’t know how to check if the javascript twitter-related error has disappeared – if you let me know I will check for the error as I reactivate various components (see good news below!)
I ran the DG tool to fix pages and associated Permalink pages look set ok – but the homepage map still looked broken, and listing details (tabs) were not reflecting Producer (Places) Field settings.
On reflection, the other significant setting I altered in the last couple of days was allowing the Map Cluster to be processed on Server Side not Client side (planning for a big directory) – this occurred to me as once broken, the map was looking peculiar with everything clustered around a small red marker. I changed the setting back to Client side and lo and behold all appears well: map looks OK, pages working fine (I just had to add most of the information back for my MW listing. Thinking about it, before the drastic problem, map markers and pop-up details windows were also behaving strangely (sometimes disappearing when clicked on), which I had put down to oversensitive cursor. Anyway, I believe I have identified the culprit: Server Side Procession of Marker Clustering (which I wont be using again in a hurry) – and recommend you have a look at that as a source of possible future problems.
I’d like a pointer on identifying the javascript error though please!
Thanks,
AdrianThanks Paolo,
I’ll have a look at the ‘Tweet This’ plugin, which was updated this week in case that is causing issues – and I’ll rectify the other problems.
I’ll then report back.
Adrian
Having just had a look, all 8 producers are lumped as one red marker on the map, and an attempt to change the Region to Devon with the Location Switcher on the menu leads to an Epic 404 page.
AdrianThis reply has been marked as private.… although the bizarre state of the homepage map makes me wonder if it is a corrupted plugin?
(I am researching database cleaning tools – but about to go lie down with a cold towel on my head)

Thanks Stiofan,
that’s good news!

yes, I understand that there is a request section. It appears to be for additional functionality to the website – now, I could make a request for extra functionality, such as developer and/or user ability to change between AND/OR searches as default – however, I am not asking for extra functionality, I am asking that the basic functionality be refined.
Currently – using my example – I could have AND searches for multi-select listing variables (e.g., types/levels of organic certification) set up in one of two ways: using the multi-select field as it is configured, or separating out the individual response settings for the variable as separate select/check/radio fields and letting users select them in whatever combination they like in Custom Search. IN either case I get an AND search – I cannot, however, set up an OR search.
If custom searches for multi-select fields operated on OR logic in Custom Search, then the developer has the option of configuring fields according to whatever logic is most appropriate for their directory: AND searches with separate fields, OR searches with a multi-select variable. Currently there is no way I can see of enabling an OR search in Custom Search. This means that a major (arguable, the main) issue of relevance to my potential directory users – notably, what type/level of assurance they are seeking in searching for food products – is made cumbersome: searches have to be repeated several times to cover all the likely possibilities. Can you really not look at this without a functions request? It appears to be a core functionality issue to me!
Thanks,
AdrianHi Paolo,
I totally buy into that logic (for combining different fields in the search).
I just wonder about the best logic when using a single multi-select as a custom search – in my case I have a field that requests of food producers whether they have various statuses (Certified Organic, Certified Demeter (Biodynamic), in-conversion for either of these, as well as ‘self/peer assurance’ schemes. The logic here is that a single producers may hold more than one at a time (e.g. for different types of produce, or they may be Certified Organic and In-Conversion to Biodynamic status at the same time).
Similarly, and of importance for me, a customer may want to search for Biodynamic, whether certified or in-conversion – other customers may want to search for Certified Organic or Biodynamic – others still may want to search for all statuses except for ‘self/peer assured’. I had hoped that the multi-select when used in a custom search might have operated on OR logic, allowing these different searches. I am not sure what other data directory compilers use the multi-select fields for, but instinct tells me an OR logic search would be more often useful than an AND logic search.
I realise we can vote for extra functions, but aside from that, might you collect up issues like this (either/or aspects of functionality) and have a poll of registered users to gauge majority preferences? Just a thought!
Thanks,
AdrianThank you both,
I’ll have a think about maybe separating them out as individual radio buttons (which could then be selected for search in an OR way)rather than a multi-select, although not sure how to get around the fact that I wanted to make answering at least one of the options compulsory (they are not colours on my site, but types of Organic Certification and similar schemes).
Can you confirm that the custom search uses AND logic when combining different fields?

October 15, 2015 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Restricting add listing to business owner or 'listing champion' #57043Hi Paolo,
I’ll maybe have a go to s2member at some point in the future – looks like one too many new plugins to get my head around at the moment, so will probably go with explicit instructions as well as checking draft listing submissions.
Tell me though, am I imagining that I was able to have a listing field appear dependent on the answer to a previous field – eg, adding a text field if ‘other’ is selected from a list?
Thanks,
AdrianOctober 15, 2015 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Restricting add listing to business owner or 'listing champion' #57020Hi Guust,
“what will stop people pretending they are the business owner just to get past your question?”
Well, if they do that I would hope to pick them when I check submitted listings before they go live – manually if necessary,i.e. looking up the business and contacting them through official contact channels. Persistent offenders will have accounts deleted/ ip addresses blocked.
Your suggestion about naming packages is worth thinking about – although as a rule I have 2 or three packages to choose from for each CPT and their names are already quite wordy!
I would be keen to hear if anyone has done this type of thing with an different wordpress user type – or has an idea of how to do it.
Similarly, I am sure that I came across an option to have fields included on listing forms dependent on answers to preceding field question (but can’t find it now) – and would like to hear from anyone who does something similar.
Hi Stiofan,
no need for a sooner fix for me.
thanks,
