That sounds like it might be a plugin conflict. You can try disabling non-GD plugins to see if that works.
You can also try clearing your browser cache. In some cases deleting the site settings and cache from Chrome can help with WP dashboard form issues.

Are the ‘breakouts’ you mentioned currently setup as ‘parent’ categories?
We have had a few requests to create a ‘dependant dropdown’ or ‘drill down’ for parent and subcategories for the search bar.
You are saying that still would not meet your needs?

The best I have seen lately is something like a menu item that opens a large panel from the header and lists every category or location as a menu link.

just to be clear, when you say you uploaded a featured image, GD listings don’t use the media library. So, to set the featured image, you would need to upload an image into the listings image gallery. The first image will be set as the featured image, and you can drag and drop them to change the order.
The featured image field available through the WP Backend post editor is not used by GD listings as a source of images.

Well, from their perspective, their plugin no doubt wraps every link on the page. It may be expecting normal WP queries, and so it is not able to work with the custom queries used by GD. It is not something GD can prevent, per se, but it speaks to an inherent incompatibility.

resizing the logo for mobile view isn’t a feature of the GDF Modern child, and your site behaves exactly as the demo here: https://wpgeo.directory/gdf-modern/
It appears you are using a logo as a header and that it is quite wide. If you tried one closer to the original on the demo at 274*60 it wouldn’t trigger the scrollbar.
