I misunderstood your earlier mention of an ‘upgrade’ as referring to Payment Manager and Invoicing.
Payment Manager V1 addons, including the previous gateways are no longer supported.

Each site is separate. Memberships come with unlimited sites.
GD and Addons can be deployed through a multisite setup but cannot be network activated. They must be activated individually on each separate site.
