Adding of overlays is a customization beyond the scope of what we support here in the forums.
There may be another way to accomplish a similar effect through the use of the Google Custom Maps Add-on:

Those are good ideas for streamlining how listing owners interact with the site and we’ll keep them in mind for future version.
For a customized experience like that, working with the API is an option. WordPress authentication is possible using the WordPress API, and the current GeoDirectory API can be used to accomplish listing updates and a whole lot more.
For more details about the way our sites are setup, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for a future blog post on the subject 😉
