OK. Got a chance to try the github update.
The child categories did seem to import just as they were supposed to, but the import “hung” at 99% complete, telling me that it was at 1010 of 1014 items, but when I looked in a separate tab at the categories, it only shows 990 categories.
After a lot of searching, I found that there were a couple of categories where there was some duplication, which were skipped–understandable. I exported the categories from the site, then compared this to what I uploaded. There were about 15-20 items “missing” from the export from the site. BUT, when I searched for them from the dashboard, all those categories were in the site already. Weird.
I think I’m set now, except for the category icons.
One thing that would be very helpful on your sample csv for importing would be to show an example entry for cat_icon that is custom & uploaded. I have tried: http://rotaryyp.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/map-pin-yellow-th.png, and rotaryyp.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/map-pin-yellow-th.png, and wp-content/uploads/2015/06/map-pin-yellow-th.png. And it’s still not working.
Is there a way to set a custom category icon as a default for all categories?
So do we know if the GitHub version includes subcategory imports yet?
Can I test out the beta version of the update with the subcategory import for you?
Guust, are you saying that if for example, I want to make “Tax Accounting” a subcategory of “Accounting”, in the import line for Tax Accounting, I would make it’s slug: “accounting/tax-accounting”, and that would make it a subcategory?
Did you all ever figure out if there is a way to designate child categories in the import? Or is that only possible manually through the dashboard?
Also, can a category be a child category of two parents? For instance, “Business Law” might be a child of both “Business” and “Law”…
And if so, how can I indicate this on the import?
Thanks, Paolo! I have the CSV of the Categories back from the client, so when you get back to me, I’ll be good to go!
Yes! Guust you are right, that IS where I set it! Thanks!
Ok, I think I found it: Design-Listings-Upload listing no image. But I have no file chosen there.
So then I looked at the individual listing, and it looks like the “default no upload” file is specifically attached to the post. Once I deleted it, everything looks right now.
I had been thinking that that image file would simply be called for display when there were no images in the post. Now I understand how it works!
Paolo, will that turn off all warnings for all plugins? I’m not sure I really want to do that…
Perfect! Thanks for your speedy replies!
While I know it’s not for everyone, I have really enjoyed learning about how the translation files work in getting GD set up for this client. I like learning new things, and I can see some great possibilities for other use cases. 🙂
Thanks, Simone! While I thought that I had made the change in the dashboard, I obviously hadn’t.
It took me a bit to realize that the .po file I needed to edit was in the Payment Manager extension, but I found that. I made the changes to the file, and compiled into an .mo file. (I had previously made changes in the language file for the core plugin, so that was easy.)
Then, I did the parallel of what I needed to do for the core plugin, in the languages directory, I added “geodir_payment_manager”, so that the path was: wp-content/languages/geodir_payment_manager/geodir_payments-en_US.mo. That didn’t work.
Then I added geodir_payments-en_US.mo to the wp-content/languages/geodirectory directory. That didn’t work.
I’m confident I got the file changed correctly, but I can’t seem to figure out the correct location for that file so that it gets triggered. Suggestions?
I downloaded the zip from github, extracted the files, changed the directory from geodirectory-master to geodirectory, then overwrote the plugin files by FTP, and ran GD >> Tools to clear all GD version numbers. Do you think there was something in that sequence that didn’t get me the dev version?
Nope. I’m not seeing that at all!
Hmm… all went well with upload of the dev version. (Did rename the directory to “geodirectory” from “geodirectory-master”). Cleared all the version numbers as described.
Then could not find the new Import/Export menu at all, and when I went looking for it, discovered that while I got error messages about my CSV import of just a list of categories (and the post-type) failing, the categories DID IMPORT! 🙂
My first attempt at import said the import failed because of not having a post-type. That made sense, so I added the gd_place type to my CSV for each category. This second attempt said it failed because there was no post title. I’m not sure whether the categories actually imported the first time, or the second time.
I’m set for now–my issue with importing is solved.
Do let me know if I can help test anything.
Glad to look for that import option– where should I be seeing that new menu?
