I’m pretty sure I’ve installed both themes in that way at least once (along with direct FTP) but will delete them and do so again.
I did it, and it worked this time. Sigh. Thank goodness/you. Database converted, theme enabled.
Now for what seems like the arduous process of re-customizing. FYI, Above you linked two resources that worked before and looked really helpul, but are now coming up 404:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/setup/
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/installation/after-upgrade/In addition to that I’ve been bouncing all over the damn docs and can’t find any mentions of where to put custom CSS now, i.e. the V2 equivalent of GD -> Design -> Scripts -> Custom Style CSS which I made EXTENSIVE use of. I am hoping I can just copy and paste my CSS somewhere, and know I could figure something out, but want to do it the right way. Suggestion?

I deleted the “directory-starter” directory and renamed “directory-starter-2.0.0.4” to “directory-starter.” Confidence was high! Even I couldn’t screw that up.But when I popped back into the “Themes” screen of wp-admin there was an error message to the effect of “your theme is broken, reverting to default”
I hoped that was temporary so refreshed the page but WordPress has indeed “activated” Twenty Seventeen for me. I only see tiles for default themes and Directory Starter, not Supreme which I can see IS still in the /themes/ folder with FTP, and this, which says it can’t activate Supreme because Directory Starter doesn’t exist.
Here’s SFTP view of themes folder:

I successfully extracted and uploaded all V2 plugins to /wp-content/plugins/ using FTP.
But when I got to step 9, i.e. tried to re-open your WP admin and follow the prompts from the GD Converter, I found that my entire site, front end and back end admin comes up Error code 500:

That’d explain why the database update process doesn’t seem to be finishing, and my site has forgotten how to parse shortcodes.
December 26, 2018 at 2:06 am in reply to: Any Way to Let Users "Clear Location" from Search Yet? #459958Oh man, just seeting that reply there. Those instructions are MUCH more detailed than the ones on the page that I stumbled upon from the page you pointed me at earlier. : /

December 26, 2018 at 2:04 am in reply to: Any Way to Let Users "Clear Location" from Search Yet? #459957FYI, one early frustation with V2 is the apparent evisceration of the “Design” tab which used to house, among other important things, the Scripts section where I put my custom CSS and javascripts.
December 26, 2018 at 1:25 am in reply to: Any Way to Let Users "Clear Location" from Search Yet? #459952The instructions don’t mention that you need to delete core GeoDirectory plugin and sub-plugins in order to install the new V2 versions. At least I think you need to, because without doing so you get the “Plugin installation failed. Destination folder already exists.”
I’m currently deleting all the old plugins “and their data” as wordpress likes to put it, and installing the V2 versions, and hoping it works. : /
December 26, 2018 at 1:08 am in reply to: Any Way to Let Users "Clear Location" from Search Yet? #459949That’s fantastic news, thanks!
Looks like all of the plugins/addons I rely on are at least in beta so I reckon I’ll upgrade my staging site for now and see how it goes.
This reply has been marked as private. Thanks, that situation is resolved. New one that’s related enough I hope you don’t mind me covering it here instead of spawning new thread.
When I hit the site as a non-logged-in user and set up a new account it takes me to the Add Event form. I enter my stuff, it says “Review Your Event” and takes me to a preview of the event page which looks fine. But there’s nothing to do there, i.e. no way to confirm the page, or fix something, or make it happen. So it’s effectively a dead end that leads to the event NOT being created.
Shouldn’t there be some actions to take on that page preview?
