I have a new problem that may or may not be related to the Left Nav fix.

I can no longer use the Add a Business page. When I go there, none of the controls respond to my inputs or mouse clicks.

When I inspect the page, it looks like the container for the Google Ad at the bottom of the page is running vertically the whole length of the body.

Compare that with the behavior of the ad on the site homepage, where the container is only as tall as the ad.

Does that have something to do with the edits we made to theme compatibility?

    Hi Alex –

When I press the “Export” button, a box appears below the buttons, but it doesn’t contain anything except some light gray text that says “Paste the JSON code here and then click import again”

So if there is supposed to be JSON code in that box, it’s not there.

    Thanks, Kiran –

I copied the fields over from my staging site to my production site. It definitely works better than before, although it’s still imperfect.

I have a question about your note, where you said “This compatibility is for left sidebar, so use only display left sidebar for GD pages from GeoDirectory > Design section.” Does that mean that your updates fix the left sidebar, but break the right sidebar?

When I have elements in both sidebars, the center column seems to extend all the way to the right edge of the content area, meaning that the right sidebar is actually being pushed beyond the content area and disappears off the right side of the browser window. I’m guessing this is what you are referring to.

For now I’m just using the left column, so it’s okay. But there seems to be a CSS incompatibility between Extra and Geodirectory, because I’m unable to change the width of the left column.

Is there documentation that describes how the Theme Compatibility scripts are to be written? It might help me understand how to tweak things further. I can’t figure out how to configure the Theme Compatibility fields.

Separately, nothing happened when I tried to “export” the theme compatibility settings you created. Is that normal?

    Thanks
    James

Yes, because it’s not working I didn’t want to introduce the display problems to my production site.

But if we can solve the problem in staging, then we can apply the same fix to production.

Then when I make the content changes in production, they will already be fixed.

So please try to fix it in staging. Then if you can reproduce the fix in production, that would be good. And maybe also tell me what you changed so I will know how it worked.

    Thanks
    James

    Bingo.

    That solved it.

    Thanks.

If I enable font awesome, is there some way I can select what icon I want to use for each rating?

Currently when I enable font awesome, all my ratings turn into gray stars. I’d like to be able to choose a different font awesome icon for some of them. Can I do that?

Also, can I set the color when I use font awesome icons? Or are they just gray?

So I went to the plugins page and entered my license keys for each of the GeoDirectory extensions that I currently have installed, including the Social Media Importer.

Then I tried to update the importer plugin.

    It worked fine this time.

Still, I’m curious about that error message, and if maybe there is some kind of conflict with Elegant Themes.

    Hi, Kiran –

I logged on to my site just now and saw that there was a plugin update waiting. It was Geodirectory.

When I started the plugin update process, I got the following message:

An error occurred while updating GeoDirectory Social Importer: Before you can receive product updates, you must first authenticate your Elegant Themes subscription. To do this, you need to enter both your Elegant Themes Username and your Elegant Themes API Key into the Updates Tab in your theme and plugin settings. To locate your API Key, log in to your Elegant Themes account and navigate to the Account > API Key page. Learn more here. If you still get this message, please make sure that your Username and API Key have been entered correctly A licence key is required to update, please enter it under: Plugins > GeoDirectory Social Importer > Licence key.

This makes it sound like maybe there is a conflict between GeoDirectory’s updater and the Elegant Themes updater. Elegant Themes makes the Divi theme and the Extra theme (which I use for my site). They also make some plugins called Bloom and Monarch. Each of their items (themes and plugins) needs to have and Elegant Themes username and API key installed in order to have automatic updates.

So could it be conflicting with the WP Easy Updates updater? Have you heard of that before?

I haven’t yet tried putting in a new username and API key; I’ll try that next. But wanted to share the issue with you.

Is there a way I can change the default URL the GeoDirectory uses for the registration?

I want to send the user to my site’s registration page, not the GeoDirectory registration page.

(I’m currently using Memberpress to handle my registrations, by the way.)

    Other thoughts on this concept:

Add the ability to enhance a listing with information imported from a Facebook profile. So if a user has already added a listing for a business, or maybe you have a preexisting listing and the business just added a Facebook page, now you can link the listing to that page and import any data that you didn’t already have, or maybe you can choose which elements to import and/or overwrite in the current data in GeoDirectory.

If it’s too hard to add it to the Admin interface, maybe just create a special admin-only front-end page where the Facebook information can be imported. That way it wouldn’t need to send a confirmation email, or ask the user to accept the terms and conditions.
