So, instead of writing the shortcode myself, I used the shortcode generator on the details page.

That is how it always should be done.

I wanted to know what “post ID” refers to, and what number this should be changed to.

You should leave that empty unless you want to create a map for a particular listing on a normal WP page.

I can zoom in, I can put in a location in the search box and it will display a pin for the location I choose, but none of the listings that should be in the visible area of the map display.

If you use the “map_type=post” setting, then only one listing can show. Either the listing of the detail page where you added the shortcode, or if you added the shortcode anywhere else, you need to add a post ID of the listing you want to show.

In addition, there is a little box on the top left of the map that displays, and if I click on that, the error comes back up.

If you added a URL, then we could check that.

Also, the map that displays on the right, that comes from the widget in the appearances menu, not a shortcode, still displays with that error. However, on all other geodirectory pages, that map displays properly.

Without access to the admin area, there is nothing we can add.

Do I need to create a separate widget to display on the location page and on the details page, each with a different type of map (auto for the location pages, and post for the details pages)?

Correct, that is why there are different types of map.

Any suggestions for how to get the map icons to display on the map, which now shows up on the listings details page?

Not without access to the admin area, sorry.

    Thanks

    1. You’ve still not answered my questions here. I’ve already set the homepage. My questions are regarding the content that should or should not be on that page. It is not clear what will and will not break the site.

The homepage is a WordPress page and you can add anything you want to that page.
If there is anything GD related that breaks the page, let us know.

    2. The website is accessible to those who have been provided access. I provided access to your colleague and that account has not been disabled. If you had read above, you’d have seen that I previously told him that there is a problem with my security app that is requiring one to access their email to verify and login after they are initially denied access. Here’s a picture of an email I was sent just this morning when I attempted to login. If you don’t have access to your colleague’s email, then you will not be able to use his login credentials and must either provide me with an email address that you can personally access so I can set up a login for you or you can go talk to your colleague and see if he will allow you access to his email so you can use his login credentials.

Please disable your WordFence plugin or change the security setting if you want our support staff to help you.
I no longer can login either.

    3. Your “recommendations” are only visuals of examples of what can be achieved with your plugin but do not provide any instructions whatsoever on how to replicate them. For a non-developer, this is of little help.

There are no rules as to what to link or add to a menu or a page, every website can be unique. It is your website, you decide what you think your visitors want.
If something does not work, be specific what exact part you need assistance with, then we can help, and please share URL and a screenshot of the exact part you want help with.
We cannot guess the look you want, but we will help you achieve it.

    4. I’ve already expressed my interest in a particular demo and aesthetics of a particular website (see above). A non-developer would need to ask how to recreate every single piece of one of your demos – which is entirely too time consuming and a waste of resources for your admins who have to reply. Providing this information as well as better written support docs up front would certainly free up much of the time of the admins who must reply to all of the inquiries submitted in the forums.

If you like the Listimia demo, then use the Listimia theme.
Our support does not include lessons on how to create your own theme.
    Please refer to https://wpgeodirectory.com/support-policy/

DO NOT set the WP Front Page to the GeoDirectory V2 Location page or Search page. Doing so will break search and other GeoDirectory functionality.” is not enough information for a non-developer. What does that mean??? Set it where???

The warning at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/getting-started/front/ refers to
GD > Settings > General tab > Pages sub-tab > Location page [see image 1]

Can any of the shortcodes on those pages work on the home page or will using any of those shortcodes or widgets break the site?

There is no harm in trying to add shortcodes or widgets anywhere.
You will be able to check they work on the front end or not.

many of the instructions do not match the installed software. For example, see the instructions to add a forum in UsersWP, however, when one goes to the location as instructed, the option is no where to be found! (See pics with the word “forum” in the description attached.)

The bbPress addon for UsersWP will work if you have bbPress installed. Did you already install bbPress?

The problem with the shortcode builder is that you have no idea what each shortcode is or what it will look like when you select it.

Using the block editor may be a better option for you, the GD blocks are a bit more user-friendly.

    5. I already provided a picture for you to see the odd lines; it even states “odd lines” in the description of the picture I uploaded!!!! Look at the pictures submitted before responding. You can see the lines on the buttons crossing over the arrows. All other odd lines are visible on any of the footers on my pages where the link that says “find us on facebook” can be seen where there is a lined border on 2/4 of the sides of that space.

Please provide the URL and fix admin login details so we can check the code.

    Thanks

The GD-WPML addon only adds a duplication option to the front for your users.
All the rest of your multilingual site is done by WPML, and running your site without the GD-WPML addon would be exactly the same apart from the option for users to duplicate their listings.
So when it says “GeoDirectory Multilingual ‘just works’ when WPML is installed, functioning in the background as a bridge.“, it refers to the GeoDirectory Multilingual addon, and all that is required for it to work is to add the “GD > Post WPML Duplicate” widget to the detail page [see image]
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/multilingual/#settings

    Thanks

I’ll get Kiran to have a look at your last question when he is back tomorrow.

As far as I know WPML translate will do the description only, but none of the custom fields like addresses etc.
You need to duplicate the listings for that, using the duplicate option in the listing.

Where did you see the term “activate WPML and it just works”?
Most of your question are WPML related, but we’ll do our best to answer them where they are GD related too.

    Thanks

    Please try now.
I changed your shortcode using the shortcode builder.
You had curly quotes in the code instead of straight quotes, so that broke the shortcode.

    Thanks

I thought I had replied, but it looks like I forgot to click the submit button.
Here is the reply I had prepared:

    1) Pictures or logos that the user uploads show in the upload preview panel before submission, but then disappear and are no longer in the listing when it is approved (or edited prior to approval)

Without specific investigation on your site, we cannot know what the problem is, because that is site specific. I have not seen this reported before.
Do all you other sites have the same problem?
It could be a conflict with other plugins or your theme.
Does the problem fix itself if you use a simple theme like 2017?
Does the problem fix itself if you de-activate non-GD plugins?
Please make sure to update WP, it is still at 5.2.5.
    PHP 7.3 is recommended: https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

    2) in the listings details page, I have put in the shortcode [gd-map] as shown on your list of shortcodes.

Try re-saving your permalinks, and make sure they are set to “postname” as explained here:
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/permalinks/

The second issue is that the logo in the new test listing I created is not working, but the logos on listings I created before the upgrade work fine.

When adding a test listing, there was no option to add a logo.
Do you have an active logo custom field?

    Thanks

Because in the sidebar widget “Enable sticky map?” is ticked.

That is a bug that is fixed already in the next update.
