Sorry just posting again – didn’t mean it to be a private reply…

    Hi Stiofan and all.

Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it.

So in an effort to help show the issue further and in more detail, I have done the following:

So I have run some tests on a user (me) making a search using ‘near me’ in one location. Then I have driven some distance, periodically stopping and trying a new search from a new location some kms/ (miles) away.

Some screen shots are as follows:
    • Image #1 – Is where I was when initially doing the first search at 4.45pm

    • Image #1a – Is the item (event) I was viewing showing a venue distance of 3.83km from my location

I then drove quite some distance to the other side of a major city- occasionally refreshing the screen, turning off ‘near me’ , turning back on ‘near me, trying other searches, trying to get it to find my new location so I can search for events or places near my new location- nothing would work!.

    • Image #2 showing the main page, now 5.08pm (some 23 minutes later) STILL showing me in the same location. (I was now the other side of the city)

    • Image #3 showing (via google maps) my actually location at the same time – 5.09 pm – the black ‘X’ signifiers where Geo-directory says I was still at – for clarity.

    • Image #4 (5.10pm) showing it still showing I’m the exact same distance from the venue (3.83km away)

    • Image #5 5.12 pm after another refresh showing it has randomly decided to update where I actually am ?? – Almost a half hour after I left the original destination.
Please please help …. I want to launch my website very soon but to be honest, I cant unless uses can actually ‘geolocate’ themselves to find businesses and events from where they are…and Geo Directory just won’t allow this to happen (well ok, it will allow it….once and then it’s totally inaccurate (or 10 – 20 – 30 minutes?) it they move / walk/ drive somewhere else and wish to re-fresh their search

I have spent months and hundreds of hours (part time) trying to get this all together using Geo directory and combining it with all sorts of other plugins that I needed it to work with (employing coders to to modified/ customise the other plugins to work with GD) and did this all on desktops and was really happy with how it was all working, only to actually test it on mobile devices to find it doesn’t really ‘geo locate’ on mobile devices if you actually ‘move’ and refresh ? and surely this can’t be right yeah?

Is there any work around you can suggest at all even in the interim? or at least give me some pointers on where or how this may be customised (code) and I will pay one of your GD coding experts to try and get it working in any way that will make it useable.

By the way- as you will notice I am using Open Street Maps to see it that helped as Paolo mentioned that it was the ‘Google Geolocation Service’ that didn’t allow this (see comment above) but seems it’s the same with OSM ?

Thanks Stiofan and everyone, I really appreciate all your input and help here. Hopefully we can sort something… else I’m screwed ..(and so will others be with the same issue I can only image:(

I’m more that happy to help test and work in with you in anyway I can.

    Kind regards.

Hi there and thanks for both your replies.

Paolo- thanks for the info. Its not that i want to follow someones movements continuously, its just that if they move position (say within a city) and want a more relevant search on their new location, then surely there must be a way to update this ….and I would have thought this would be a core requirement of the ‘Geo Directory’ being of any use to them? (via us)

If we cant serve them ‘current or present ‘ geo location information and as a result, cant serve correct and up to date search results, then this will cause huge frustration for users surely?

Just as a thought, if this is ‘session’ based, is there any way to refresh the session or a button we can add for users to kill the session and re-start so it can do a fresh location search?

Whats at present dictates how long a ‘session’ is..is this google? as the sessions seems to refresh at some stage (after say 10 mins)

    Just an idea…

Also, just wondering if this is a Google constraint, then is ‘open street view’ an option that might work instead of using google?

    Thanks as always.

    Hi Alex.

Thanks for the information, much appreciated.

Id be keen to trey to V2 Beta but i note that it states that this should only be used with a fresh install of wordpress ?

Does this mean id have to start again from scratch and install everything again/ re- install all plugins/ custom settings/ pages/ the lot ? 🙁

    Hi Guust.

Thanks for the fast response, really appreciate it.

Oh ok so that’s interesting that s2member can do that ok?

I had been in touch with Memberpress but they thought it was more specifically to do with an issue with the [gd_add_listing] shortcode, as when they (and I ) tried even a simple test – wrapping the [gd_add_listing] shortcode in a ‘hide’ shortcode tag, it broke the page (too many redirects), which is the reason for / direction of my first question to you – just to see if that could be sorted and the rest may then work. (keeping in mind that other GD shortcodes work fine when doing this)

i.e – if we cant get [gd_add_listing] to be just ‘hidden’, then no other rule (i.e a specific membership hide rule) would work either, so wanted to try and explain it / resolve it with an easier explanation to you at the start.:)

I appreciate you asking others to look at this too Guust and look forward to hearing further.

    Kind regards,

    Ian

    Hi Guust.

Yes it (memberpress) does, but what i want to do is to be able to do is have the ‘Add Listing Page’ shortcode placed on a page with other information (say a text box above or below for example) and if the user is not allowed to ‘Add a Listing’ then the form does not show. (i.e its hidden.) But the text still does.

On this point above- I have just done some more testing and it seems I can even do what i was hoping – having a listing form and text above or below?

This only seems to be an issue with [gd_add_listing].

For example – On a page you can put different shotcodes on the same page, such as [gd_listings] & [gd_listing_map] and this works fine.

If you put any one of these (above) and then add [gd_add_listing], all you get showing on the page is the ‘add listing form’ when viewing the page? – it seems to override and stop any other shortcode functioning ? (for example – me wanting to put a text block above or below)

I’m assuming it should work with other shortcode etc?… like any other theme / wordpress page?

Thanks Guust, I appreciate your assistance.

    Hi Alex.

Just re your post above that states:

“Simply hide all the package information on the add-listing page,
then create a new page with your pricing tables and links to specifically to each of the packages.
If you only want to link to the free package, then just link to that”

How do i hide the package information from the add listing page please ? Is this a setting (that i cant find?) or does it need something a bit more technical like a snippet?

    Thanks as always.
