Hmm removing the images from that widget is tricky, to increase the font instead you can add this in style.css inside your child theme folder:

.geodir-cat-list a  {
font-size:16px;
}

you can play with the value, 16 is an example

oh, ok, so add the autozoom=true in the shortcode, e.g.

[gd_homepage_map width=100% height=300px autozoom=true]

2.b. Now I want to change the icon for churches from a heart to a cross, and the icon for offices from a star to a building. Where, and how do I do that?
-You can change the categories icon going in Place Categories (left hand side, under Places)

I did this, trying to add address, phone, email, website, etc. But still, the only info in the listings is the text: “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,…”
– I checked and the setting “Show on listing Page” is still to “No”.If you switch to “Yes” it will appear.

When I try to set the icon to an address in Puerto Plata, I get a message that I can only set it to an address within Santo Domingo city.
– This happens because you did not install the Geodir Location Manager
addon, without that addon, you can only add listing to a city. (you’ll find this addon in your profile/download page)
