Thanks Stiofan, when is the next update to GD due for release, it has a few changes and I thought I would wait for it?
What results are obtained using the default WP search box, or an advanced version of it?
Without selecting New York, if you type near “Canal Street, NY” it calculates the distance as 1.48 miles – so I don’t think it is a big bug?
If geolocation is enabled, how will the search work on a mobile phone? What if I want to know how far the Tavern is from “me”? (Just curious)
Have you disabled it?
It used to be that the “Search Near” would order results by distance from the search location, and show the distance – I don’t know if newer version is also meant to filter to the entered location?

June 21, 2014 at 2:46 am in reply to: Which file has geodir-wrapper and/or where are developer docs? #5351There’s no detailed manual yet. This is still a very new product and the developers are releasing new versions weekly, based on initial user feedback. Once that settles down they have promised to document the customisation of themes, use of hooks and filters, etc etc.
So stay tuned, it shouldn’t be too long! 😉
Do you have a text search tool, I don’t have GeoDirectory installed at the moment, but the code you are looking for has to be in there somewhere!
You will need to have the multi-location plugin installed, otherwise you are limited to the default city.
You can always use the map to pinpoint the address and it then does the reverse lookup to the address.
Do you have the “Everywhere” location enabled?
The location switcher lets a user choose, Country, State, or City if they want a geographic search.
Is that what you’re after?
+1 Again!
Seriously, it doesn’t make sense to maintain a filter on a selected area.
If you go to any shopping cart website, say a clothing site, and go to the “Footwear” department, and then you search for “Overcoat” – or go back to the home page – you don’t get stuck in the “Footwear” department until you reselect the “Everywhere” option. Nobody will understand that, it will frustrate our users and make them go somewhere else!
I think the described Author page is for use by someone who has “authored” one, or more, listings. When that person has logged into their dashboard, as shown in the link you provided, and then click on either the “My Places”, or “My Events” link they will see a list of their places or events in the format described.
Is that working?
Thanks Liberty, I think I will go down the same path; you seem to be making good use of the functionality!
I complained about it a month ago!

Not sure what Vikas is going to fix – the spelling??
I was wondering how you have structured your content?
In the droplist for the search for you have “Restaurants”, but Restaurants seems to be a Category of the Places CustomPostType, and selecting this in the droplist doesn’t return anything?
How did you get Restaurants into the droplist, and why doesn’t it return any results?
Just curious because I am still trying to figure out how to set up my content!
Nice menu Liberty, what are you using, if I may ask?
