Is there a way for me to display all listings under whatever category regardless of what city is assigned to the listing? I am looking more for a regional listings and events, versus having to have someone use the location switcher for what city they are looking for something in.

    Thanks!

Do you have the “Everywhere” location enabled?

The location switcher lets a user choose, Country, State, or City if they want a geographic search.

    Is that what you’re after?

    @ m forbes
Listings and events will be different custom post types, so they cannot be displayed on the same map.
Only (sub)categories of a custom post type can be shown on the same map at the same time.
If you want to use the location switcher (which you don’t have to) you should be able to choose the region? Like Purpleedge says, tick the “everywhere” box in your admin: that will add “Everywhere” above the list of cities so visitors can see all cities.

Guust, I was not aware of that – can you please put that on your backlog? It should be possible to display various CPT on one map…

    @nvoi
As far as I know, adding all custom type posts on the same map is not possible, because of server restrictions or something.
I’ll invite Vikas to explain it better if required, he is one of the smarter ones around here 🙂

Yes, I would appreciate that explanation as in my understanding, the map simply queries posts – that query should be extended to further CPT, at least on a geographical taxonomy.

    Hi,
Geodirectory has been designed in such a way that only one post type can be queried at one time to keep its performance intact even if u have thousands of records for each post types.

    Please advise?

    Thanks

    Hi Vikas,

I have to admit that I am not a pro when it comes to performance, however I would think that it would make more sense to simply query a number of records depending on the map level but covering all CPT. If there are cluster markers, even better.

I think that the current limitation is not very user-friendly and would hope that you adopt a different approach, e.g. like the above where you could display 100 markers or something similar, no matter which CPT.

    Thanks for your consideration!

    Hi,
We have plenty of things to do. I will definitely consider this in near future.

    Thanks

Actually, I am not caring so much about the map.

I am more interested in, let’s say, someone clicks on the “community events” link under “events”, then I would like all events that are entered under ‘community events” to display, regardless of what city it is listed in.

Same with listings… all listings showing under, say restaurants, regardless of city.

And yes, I do have add everywhere checked. BUT, the location switcher in my menu does not include any other cities other than my default one, and yes, I do have other cities set up under “manage locations”.

Thanks, and thanks for above info.

That is feasible with EVERYWHERE location… can you please provide a link (you can set reply to be private).
In new multilocation there is an option to show everywhere location in the location switcher for both Cities/Regions/Countries…

    Let me know,

The settings you show on your screenshot should be correct if you want to have a site for the whole of a particular region.
Your CSS is overwriting the locator CSS, so you can’t see the everywhere function until you hover, see image.

Paolo, we might have to tighten the locator switch CSS a bit better, so themes do not overwrite it.
