Thanks Guust for your help!

So sorry – read the error message wrong. I had geodirectory on my mind as I was updating them and thought it had to do with that.
Sorry to waste your time.
Cheers,

This reply has been marked as private.Hi
I’ve tried this and it still doing strange things.
When I first go on the directory page, it asks me if I can use my current location. I say yes and the search box displays User Defined.
But then sometimes it doesn’t display any listings but instead displays 5 photos on slider with no listings below.
Is there anyway to just have all locations or one region just show up as a default. I am going to start losing advertisers if users can’t see all the listings that have been purchased.
Thanks for your help guys.
Reena
Hi Simone,
Yes, the MultiLocations setting for option “Show everywhere location results on home page (First time only, if geodirectory home page is your site home page and user comes to home page).” is enabled.
I’ve also enabled Selected Countries – (Australia) and Region – (NSW).
I understand what Guust said about using the location switcher but it’s not going to work for me as the directory is a small part of my website and will probably confuse people if it’s on front page.
I would prefer that like before all listings are displayed. As it occurs now, if someone doesn’t set the suburb properly, only a few or no listings appear. This is not going to satisfy my advertisers who have paid to be seen to everyone.
Thanks for your help guys. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info.I’ll check out some plugins.
How do I disable the GD option?
Thanks,
Reena
Hi Stiofan,
All fixed now. It was the same issue as DJ Africa so fixed it now by renaming plugins.
Should the process for updating be that all the plugins are deactivated first and then Geodirectory is updated and then the remaining plugins activated and updated?
Thanks,
Reena
Also, is there a way to add text to the login screen?
Hi Guust,
Thanks so much for the quick response. The answer was just what I needed.
I’ve set the default and it works perfectly.
Cheers,
Reena
Hi purpleedge
I think we are talking about the same thing.
I would expect that if you search for Manly Vale, Manly Shoes should appear before Mona Vale because geographically it’s closer.
Cheers
Reena
P.S. I used to live in Narrabeen so know all about the geography of the Northern Beaches.
Hi Paolo
I made sure that default sort was off but it is still not sorting by distance. Here’s my screen shot of settings.

When I search for Islington Park or Wickham Park, the sort order on search results still stays the same starting with Walka Water Works.
Thanks,
Reena
Hi
Thanks, looks like the location thing is working better with the upgrade as Hamilton North now gives me some results.
However, it isn’t sorting them in location closest to location furthest. The results are the default alphabetical sort of places which contains the distance from the specified location.
Is there a way to have it display nearest location?
In case I can’t get it to work that way, Guust, how did you disable the “Near” seach box on your website?
Thanks,
Reena
Hi @purpleedge and Brian
I agree with your examples. That’s how I would like it to work.Choosing a location and displaying listings in the location and surrounding it is the functionality that I need for my users.
I was excited when it searched for one suburb and provided nearby results as well. Disappointed when I realised that only works if the suburb is uniquely named.
Can you provide your website url as I would love to see how you’ve used Geodirectory in regards to locations in a regional area?
Brian, I agree with your point about not creating confusion among users with regards to location. I’m a bit worried about that especially because my site targets busy mums, many of whom will be looking at the site via their phone. I’m trying to make the site as intuitive as possible while at the same time cater for the varying categories and subcategories.
@manilaboy, thanks for info. I’ll be voting for them.
Thanks for all your help guys,
Reena
