Doing a search for plural to singular in SQL is very difficult, there is no one way that solves the problem, there are a few hackish ways to do it but they are no efficient for big directories, you will see sites like yelp will add a sort of tag “Bike Rentals” to most of this type of listings, i think in this case it when the listing is not using the plural in the name then a plural should be used as a tag.
I am open to discussion if you think you find a site that does it better.

I feel ur pain, i am from Scotland 🙂
We don’t have a option to break down the UK in to its own countries but it is something i would like to add as an option.
If your directory is limited only to Wales we can add a little DB hack if not we would have to wait for the options to be added.
For the regions i think its using counties which seems to be returning Cardiff, this is something we can change for what is returns but it would require a code snippet and some testing.
I am off until Monday now, so it might have to wait till then depending on what you require.
