Ok then. I’ll listen to what those guys from SEO said, but I will try to listen to your advice as well.

So I will try to resume to my top regions at the moment (7 out of 48). That means I will create cat & sub-categ for these 7 only at this time. I’ll see what happens with my website and with SEO as well in the following period with this change.

Thank you Paolo for your advice!

I am now caught in the middle. There were 3 different SEO companies that told me the same thing when I asked for an audit of my website structure. I chose to work with one of these 3 companies and to follow this reccommendation because all 3 said the same thing.

I will take full responsability for what happens next.

    Thanks for the advice,
    Vlad

    Thanks.

I wanted to keep it simple, but the SEO company that I work with told me to create categories and subcategories with the Regions, Cities, Districts, Neighborhoods in Romania, because these taxonomies rank better in search engines. So there will be a lot of them. Hope I will not mess everything up.

    Thanks a lot,
    Vlad

Thank you so much for your answer!

Please let me ask you something else now: is there a limit in the number of GeoDirectory Categories & Subcategories? Like: 500, 5000, etc ?

    Thanks,
    Vlad

Let’s say I will modify a category name from “Beauty Salons” to “Romania” – this is a change I will have to do in the following days, to rename the existing categories & add new ones also. So If I will have a category named “Romania” and I will also have a Location named “Romania” they both will appear in the url’s they belong to. Each of these 2 words will describe a web page on my website.

I know that it is better not to have a category and a tag named identically. What about web pages? How will Google know which page to crawl? How will I show the search engines which of these 2 pages have a bigger priority?

That’s what I meant with cannibalizing.

Hope I was coherent with my phrases.

Ok. I’ll wait for your answer.

Have to tell you, I did a test and created a set of categories and subcategories for a test place and then I changed/modified those categories. It seemed that the url modified as well after modifying the categories.

I’ll wait for your developer’s opinion though.

    Thanks,
    Vlad

    No longer needed.
I will use from now on places categories and subcategories for better seo.

Regarding this, what I would like to ask you:

How can I prevent location page urls and categories and subcategories urls to cannibalize themselves? Is there a certain setting in GeoDirectory that can help me prevent this?

    Thanks,
    Vlad

Ok, thank you for your time.

    I have another question:

Is it possible to set different places categories and subcategories for each Country Location? If yes, how can I do that?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

For the questions 3,4 and 5 let’s make an overview and try to reformulate for a better understanding.

When I first installed WP I didn’t know how important is to choose the right language in which I should make the installation. I’m Romanian and I have installed WP in English because is more common and more user friendly.
So, I have a WP installation in English, but the content is meant to be in Romanian, SEO is meant to be for Romanian, primary site is meant to be for Romanian. So far , so good…if I don’t want to make it multilingual because I will create the pages, the listings, the places and so on in Romanian even though WP structure is in English.

But as I want to make it a multilingual site, this is not correct. Agree? I should install WP in Romanian and plugins will follow that language if they have this option language.
And when I install a plugin for such purpose (changing the languages) it only switches the version language. I can use Q Translate or WPML. So, if the themes and plugins support my language, everything is well. I can even create multiple contents for that specific language and at the switch process it will be switched too.

If the themes and plugins don’t support my language I would have to translate it. In this case, with WPML, Loco Translate (website interface) or PO Edit (manual).
My case: WP in English, places in Romanian, some categories in English (this is my mess but I hope to fix it with your helpful tips/answers)….and I need it in Romanian. If I use Loco Translate, it doesn’t matter fs my WP is English or not. It just finds the strings and translates them (put them in mo/po files). So, if I would use Q Translate to switch the languages, it automatically activates from WP/Setting/General/Site Language the chosen language (the same with Themes and Plugins – requesting the mo/po files for this language). And I would have everything working.

Loco Translate and Q Translate are not supported by your theme and plugins. So you recommend WPML.

I know that WPML, while installing it, you have to declare the primary language. In my case it would be Romanian. So, my WP is English (let’s say I switch it to Romanian), some content are in English (let’s say change them too), but the core files for the themes and plugins are in English. What I know from the past experience is that WPML should be installed from the first time in English so the strings that will find in themes and plugins (which are in English) would be translatable in other languages. So if I declare to WPML that my site is in Romanian he will find in my themes and plugins strings in English (declared in fact that are Romanian), so could not translate them in Romanian since the site is in Romanian. It would let me translate them in other languages…and I would have to translate for example the word Login (that is declared to be Romanian) in what? In English to be “Logheaza-te” . I’m not quite sure if you can follow me here?! J

So the first question is: Am I wrong with this presumption regarding WPML?
Second question: If I would start from zero installation with my site, to make it Romanian by default, would I lose my places (over 100 pieces)? In this case, how should I use WMPL considering that wp, contents, places, slugs, categories, pages etc are in Romanian and theme and plugins from you are in English?

Third question: If the function “Change Location” can show you the version of the language that you are choosing and I would say Romanian, because I’m in Romania but I’m also an American (and I would see that places from Romania, in Romanian version of the site)…how could I see the English version of that place/site? Doesn’t Change Location runs in conflict with WPML?

Fourth question and last: If I can manually translate your theme and plugins with PO Edit for example, and set WP in Romanian, will automatically switches the themes and plugins to WP default language? And then just use WPML to make translatable contents, places, categories, pages, etc?

I’m not an expert in WPML, I had some issues with it in the past (maybe I didn’t understand it well or completely) but I hope that I can understand this process GeoDirectory – Translate – WPML – Change Location Function – How to correctly install everything for my Language and needs.

    Many Thanks,

Great! I did activate it, I am starting to use it. But let me ask you, even though I activated it, I modified a listing and marked the new location neighborhood for it, but when I go to that listing I cannot see the neighborhood in the url, nor in any other place.

Isn’t it suppose to appear in the url?

    thanks

one of them whould be great!

Can you please guide me to set this neighborhoods up? I tried to activate it, but I don’t find a neighborhood field in the listings page to fill in. Where should I look for it after I activate it (from GD > Multilocations > Location settings tab)?

    thanks!

Sector 6 is one of the 6 Districts that Bucharest has. Militari is a neighborhood.

How can I put these in the listings location, so it will appear in the urls for better SEO.

    Thanks,
    Vlad
