website restructuring

    Hi there,

    new situation:

    I am starting a project of restructuring my entire website and in this project I will have to modify/add/delete some of the following:

    – pages
    – place categories
    – place sub-categories

    Given this, do you have any suggestions in order for me not to lose or impact my listings?

    Hi Vlad,

    Adding Categories will be fine but modifying/deleting a category would probably affect the listing permalinks. This would probably cause broken links and you’re required to apply redirections. I’ll transfer this to a developer for a second opinion.

    Ok. I’ll wait for your answer.

    Have to tell you, I did a test and created a set of categories and subcategories for a test place and then I changed/modified those categories. It seemed that the url modified as well after modifying the categories.

    I’ll wait for your developer’s opinion though.

    Hi Vlad,

    It is always advisable to set 301 redirects, there are many plugins to do this.

    If you listings also include the category slugs and they change then you might want something automated, if not let me know.
