    Hey guys;

    Can you check https://www.autobodyshop.org/ – the bottom part. I placed functional ad code in widgets (home page footer, various side bars) … and the ads always show ONLY BELOW the footer on the left … apart from the world map image being also displayed underneath the footer (which it does not do without ad code in place). I come to believe that’s a theme issue rather than an ad code issue. I tried with 2 ad companies and all kinds/sizes of ad code. The result (display error) remains the same.

    Thanks for your help.

    Martin

    Hey Paolo;

    It’s getting more and more frustrating. I’m running the site on a 2 GB Digital Ocean server as you recommended.

    The mobile version looked terrible and didn’t pass the google mobility test as the geolocation pop-up on first load prevents the site from loading. So I disabled the whole geo and near me stuff. I also moved the search widget for all pages to the right sidebar as it displays super-wide (requiring left/right scroll) on mobile displays when in the left (home top, home bottom) sections.

    Now the site cause more issues. On first load it shows Orlando … but sometimes Great Falls … the location switcher LOOKS ok but does NOT take me to a selected location.

    I have 2 people working on the site. One updates listings. One add posts. BOTH report the same issues: after hitting save/update they refresh a post/listing and things are NOT updated.

    I have the same plugin update issues again. They show in the left menu on WP but don’t show when going to the update tab.

    I had WordFence installed but deactivated it shortly after. It didn’t show as active all morning. Now it does!

    I’m testing with USA IP’s and logged out as if I was a regular visitor.

    Please check the site! I have no active plugin that might mess with GD (and the cache) apart from GD Booster. I’m wasting tons of hours here trying to get this to work.

    Please see “Using GD Tools keeps giving me (see Capture.png)” in the reply 51200 above! I need this addressed, please.

    Cheers,

    Martin

    Hey Stiofan;

    Thanks for the note. I’m glad you like option b.
    I will reach out via Skype on Monday morning (Mountain Time).

    Cheers,

    Martin

    My everywhere location is the USA with currently 27000 listings (which is causing the huge load/display delay) on the home page.

    I therefore use the default location “Los Angeles” which loads/displays within 5-6 seconds (still slow!).

    But: Despite being checked (check box), the home page visitor does NOT get the geolocation pop-up. I added the “Near Me” widget button right under the main map to give the user a chance to get shown HIS location map.

    To answer your question: If that modification leads to a faster loading & display of the home page, I’m obviously all for it.

    You wrote: ” At the moment you can only load the everywhere location and then ask if the user wants to be geolocated”

    As “everywhere location” is not the same as “default location” I’d think the whole issue can be solved by:
    a) running the home page java script for the “default location” (instead of “Everywhere location”
    b) allowing the geolocation (pop-up) function to work with the “default location”

    Hey Stiofan;

    Thanks for the note and explanation. I see a solution there:
    What if you DO RUN a query (based on “default location” – but NOT “everywhere) but don’t display it until the user/visitor has decided about sharing his geo location?

    This way you meet the criteria that Google has a page to index and still service the user/visitor fast/properly. You even beat weedmaps, because you get a result (map) no matter if you share or not!

    Did I explain myself? I added you on Skype (topoffice-cr)

    Cheers,

    Martin

    More than a rhetorical question:
    Isn’t the whole point of a GEO (!) Directory to make use of GEO location possibilities to increase the user experience?

    Therefore:
    Doesn’t it make sense to apply the following rule:

    1. Whenever geolocation is activated, NO query is run until the visitor agrees to either share his/her location … or cancel – within the pop window – which THEN would load the default location.

    I saw the posts about weedmaps.com and similar sites. While you may not be able to set up GD like this right away, the above would be the closest solution to this perfect scenario.

    Btw: In Chrome the “Near me” works. In FireFox it doesn’t! Major flaw considering that ~20% use it.

    Where is the “Locate Me” widget? I don’t see it.
    Do you mean the “near me” button (widget)? It does NOT work unless a location was (pre-) chosen!
    Please clarify. 🙂

    You wrote:
    At the moment if you want to use los angeles as default, the only way to make them GeoLocate would be by adding the locate me widget somewhere. Let us know if that would work…

    Please remember: the whole purpose of this exercise is to reduce the loading time on the home page – if necessary by tricking the system (running a quick “default location query” before the desired geolocation map loads).

    I had written:
    In Chrome and FireFox the home page queries/loads the entire USA map FIRST (showing it for a split second once the query is complete) before then automatically switching to the geolocation map of my IP location … even though I received the location sharing question pop-up which I OK’ed. If it wasn’t for the terribly long loading time of the full USA map, everything would be perfect!

    Next issue:

    This morning WP informed me about 7 updates for GD.

    I tried updating on both ends. In >>> Dashboard >>> Updates it showed all 7 as successfully installed/updated but after logging off and back on … the same 7 showed up with available updates again. (see Capture1.png)

    Clicking “update” on the individual ones in >>> Plugins resulted in (see Capture2.png)

    Using GD Tools keeps giving me (see Capture.png)

    I appreciate your help in solving this and get to function the theme and website properly.

    WHERE within all those plugin settings do I set “Default Location”? I remember seeing it once when I set up the theme … but not again since then.

    Following your last advice: After now setting Los Angeles as “Default City” in >>> MultiLocation >>> Manage Locations it now loads the Los Angeles map … no matter what settings I have in >>> MultiLocation >>> Location Setting and >>> Advanced Search >>>

    I don’t even get the geolocation pop-up anymore. It would be nice to see if your tip works for the home page – loading Los Angeles before then switching to the users geolocation.

    I’m at a total loss. I’m having serious trouble following the logic of the setup options. Please help!

    Hey Paolo;

    Thanks for the CTRL Click hint. 🙂

    I just mass-edited all listings to “published”. It did the trick.

    All good now. Thanks for the great support!
