Thanks guys! Now get some rest, yes?
No worries. Thanks for the help. Will look forward to the next release whenever it’s ready.
From my host.
the 500 was due to your account hitting process/memory limits. That’s something that should never happen in a normal situation.
But what looked to be happening was that processes for your site were doing something very CPU intensive, and never finishing before additional processes started up. They started slowing down because they’re all competing for the same CPU, and the processes just started to stack up. Eventually this resulted in failures.
Rolling back the plugin immediately fixed that – requests for pages on your site come in, a PHP process starts up, and finishes the request in a fraction of a second.
You’re welcome to send this info to the dev – if they have any questions/something to try, please copy in the exact text of their message and we’ll take a look
I was only updating the core file. I typically do them one at a time so that if there is an issue I know specifically which caused the problem. Thanks!
I can second the 500 Server error. It occurred while updating the core plugin. This brought all my sites down.
Notes from my host support:Within the last 10 minutes or so, the resource usage on your account has gone wild, it looks like it’s basically trying to use all the CPU it can possibly access. I killed off a bunch of the PHP processes for the site and it came back up, but it seems like as more requests come in this just builds back up and may take the sites down again.
How/what did you update? This could be monitored for a few minutes to see if the issue subsides – I’m not 100% sure if the problem is that the process of updating the plugins causes high usage or the updated plugins are hitting a loop or other issue that causes PHP processes to run forever.
We ultimately had to restore the previous days backup to get my sites up and running again. I am hosted with LightningBase who were excellent and responded to my issue in minutes.
Thanks a million!
Yes I have it activated.
