One last question regarding this:
GD and UsersWP both don’t need the complexity of roles to give site visitior’s a great experience adding and managing listings or creating an account to track favorites, events, lists, and reviews.
So if we charge for listings, a person who registers for free will only be able to track favorites, events, lists, and reviews.
Nothing to do except to allow for free registration for tracking favorites, events, lists, and reviews.
And then charge per listing.
Yes?
Last question: if we go this route: charge for listing/ charge for event (for each CPT listing).
If Practitioner X purchases / adds an event, will that event be associated with her practitioner listing?
Meaning, can we include practitioner events on their practitioner listing page?
Okay, thanks. Looks like I’m back to square one after weeks of researching directory plugins and thinking I had found what I needed with Geo Directory 🙁
So back to my question: could it be done if we add a membership component on top of Geo Directory (charge for membership) but not for listings?
I’m so sorry but I’m not understanding.
So you are saying that it can be done, yes?
And that I can create a package that allows someone to create X listings and X events?
So then that means this:
In short, I need a package that includes full practitioner listing (CPT 1) and the ability to add events (CPT 2).
Can’t be done?
Sounds like it. If that is correct, would I need to add a membership piece on top of Geo Directory (charge for membership) but not for adding listing and events?
Thank the stars in heaven! It’s working this morning. I felt certain everything was done correctly but kept getting that error message. Perhaps when you add billing, it takes a while to update?
I don’t know; all that matters is when I viewed the Google maps this morning, they display correctly.
Thank you.
I’ve spent three hours and absolutely can’t get this working. I’ve done everything in documentation, support issues, console still says exceeded your request quota for this API….
I have created and setup Google Map API keys before; this is not my first time doing this.
But here I cannot get it working. Period.
Help. Please.
Okay, digging deeper — not sure the billing was activated for the specific project. I have now linked the project to the billing account. Still not working but hoping in a few minutes that will fix things.
I found the error in the console:
You have exceeded your request quota for this API.
However, it doesn’t make sense as you see from the screenshot of my quotas.
No way I could have exceeded the quota as the site is brand new and is not even “live yet” — it’s in maintenance mode.
p.s. Also think your answer from this thread:
Letting me know this:
hide the ‘search near’ field, then, and add something like a category dropdown to the search bar to search by specialty.
Resolves issue number one. No need to disable physical location; just hide the search near field.
Thank you, Alex. This is all great news!
I’m trying to go through the documentation step by step so hopefully I’ll get my head around all the amazing flexibility within GeoDirectory.
One small additional questions: I most often use the Generate Press theme for site builds but I’m wondering if perhaps setting up one of the child themes provided by Geo might help me get a quicker grasp on how all the pieces fit together.
What would you say to that? Think it would help ?

Yes, this sounds perfect:
“hide the ‘search near’ field, then, and add something like a category dropdown to the search bar to search by specialty.”
–> So add all the specialties as categories then, correct?
“When listings are added, the database of locations grow. Is there a listing in a city where that city is not in the location settings?”
Okay, I understand now.
Thank you so much.
