    Hi,

    First time posting here!

I wanted to know the following:

    1. Hoe do you customize your pages (such as adding a full width photo on the home page instead of the map)?
    2. How can you create your own pages where you can integrate the GD widgets (say I have created my own Home Page, but I want to add a side bar on the right, and I also want the search bar to appear in the middle of the nice big full width photo that appears below the header?
    3. How can I fully customize the listing/places page, so I can have the exact layout I want for my clients? I think someone else asked, but there wasn’t clear guidance on how to do so, or where to read up on doing so.
    4. How can I integrate a simple plug in, such as intense shortcodes? So on the custom home page, I wanted a row of 3 columns, and I wanted each column to have a font awesome icon?

The documentation area doesn’t seem to explain much.

    I hope you can help,

    Thanks,

    Rock.

    Hi Rock

    1. All GD pages are made up of widget areas. You can add a widget in the GD Home Top section that shows the image.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/#typical

    2. That depends on the theme you use, but all themes would have a sidebar for the default page template, and you can then add widgets to that sidebar. You might have to modify the template to achieve what you want.

    3. You can set widget areas at GD > design > listings tab. And then add widgets at Appearance > widgets. If you want to change the template’s coding, you can have a look here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/customizing-geodirectory-templates/

    4. You can use most non-GD plugins to create non-GD pages. You can also achieve what you describe by using straight-forward HTML when you create the WP page.

If you need more detailed advice, post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply.

    Thanks Guust,

I appreciate you replying so soon.

On point 1, would it be just as effective to modify text widgets, then place them inside an original GD section in the widgets area?

On point 2, in order to add a widget, the page has to appear on the widgets area. When I create a page, it does not appear in the widget area. How can I make it so that I create a page, and then have the ability to add widgets to it?

On point 3, the guidance for it is somewhat very simple and doesn’t explain enough. If you can’t provide a full guidance on how to create your own template (I assume that templates are the only pages that appear on the widget page?), can you point to a document that will explain that?

I see many posts of people wanting to create their own page/template for: home pages, the listing page etc, but want to use the awesome widgets of GD. Perhaps a quick 5 minute YouTube video showing how to create a custom template for the home page and for the a listing pages Group pages) may answer many questions?

On point 4, is there somewhere you can point me to that will show me documentation on how to integrate third party plug ins with GD? Perhaps another 2 minute YouTube video may answer a lot of questions?

    Thanks GD!

    Rock.

    1. Exactly what I meant 🙂
You can use any type of widget in the GD widget areas, they do not have to be GD widgets.

    2. Depends on your theme. But you should have at least one sidebar for your default page template.
If you need more detailed advice, post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply.

    3. You can change most things without changing the templates. If you can explain exactly what change you are interested in, it most of the times can be done by one of the many settings already built in.
The main design for GD pages is controlled at GD > design.
If you really want to change templates, have a look here: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/template-files-section/page-template-files/page-templates/
You will need to have some understanding of HTML and PHP.

    4. Usually just install and activate the other plugin. There usually is no need for anything else.

Sorry that I cannot provide more specific answers, but your questions are not specific enough 🙂
Just have a go and let us know what is not working for you, but bear in mind we only support GD.

    1. You could use the GD search widget in the GD Home Page section, and then change the CSS of the widget to add an image as background etc.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/customizing-your-style/
You can also use the search shortcode if you are not using any of the GD pages, and then adjust the DIV around the shortcode.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/#search

    2. Every detail page will have a link to edit the listing.
You can set a full text editor for the description field at GD > design > listings tab > Show description field as editor
You can add custom fields that allow the uploading of images etc, but creating different headers with user selected backgrounds goes beyond support.
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#custom
