    Hi there,

I was searching the forum to see if this issue I am having was posted. Not sure if this is just happening for me.

I have parent and child categories in my CPT. I have a pricing plan that limits the number of categories to 1. When I add a listing using that price plan, I have to select a parent category first (I guess that’s as designed) but then there is no limit to the number of child categories I can select. I cannot select any more parent categories though.

It leads me to believe that the category limit only works at the parent level. I would have assumed it should limit the number of categories regardless of whether they are parent or child categories.

Can you check this on your end and let me know if this is a bug?

    Thanks.

I can confirm this is the same on my test site. I’ll flag it for the developers.

Thanks for the quick response. Guess I will need to use a workaround in the meantime.

    Thanks,

For clarification, as an example, if I have a limit of 3 categories, would the parent category count as 1 category?

I ask this because in our current plans, parent categories are included for Free and the child categories are counted towards the limit of 3. In other words, you can only select 3 child categories but any of the relevant parent categories.

I’m not asking you to change your parameters to accommodate our pricing plans. I just need to know how the category limit works so we can modify our category setup and limits accordingly.

As far as I remember, each category is counted, parent or child.

If you set a limit of 3 categories, users will be able to select 1 parent and 2 childs or 2 parents and 1 child or 3 parents.

I’ll let Stiofan confirm or correct my assumption.

    Thanks for your patience,

The limit should apply to all cats no matter if child or parent.
This will be looked at today.

    Thanks,

Thanks. As a follow up, a person has to select a parent category before they can select a child category. Is this as designed or is this a bug as well?

    That is by design.
