Advanced search and sort very confusing

I’m really struggling to know exatly how the Advanced Search and Sorting works.

Within the Custom Category Setting page some of the fields have the option
“Include this field in advanced search”

and some have the option above AND the option to :
“Include this field in sorting options”

Some have one option, some have both. Confusing.

Exmaple: I have multiple CPT categories. The field only has option for Advanced Search. Surely I should be able to sort by categories (A-Z)? Further, selecting “Include this field in advanced search” doesn’t add the field to the Advanced search panel but to the actual search bar.

Adding fields to Advanced Search adds it to the actual search bar at time and at other times it adds it to the Advanced search drop down. I want to choose which ones go where but can’t. More confusing.

I’m sure there is some logic but it is completely unclear and very restrictive. If you expect certain form field types to be used for specific types of data then it needs to be clear.
