    From the information in https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#near

It says “When you enter a location in the Near field, GD will calculate the center of that location.
GD then will look for all listings within an area with a default that match the Search for criteria.”

My understanding of this is that it will search for listings within the distance specified in “Limit squared distance area to X miles (helps improve search speed)” of the location entered.

It is only finding things that are listed in a specified location and around there. If I don’t have a listing at the location it is saying no results found. E.g. I have set the Limit squared distance area to X miles (helps improve search speed) to 1000 so it should find a lot of listings. I search for Toilets and enter Stirling Range National park. I have no listings in Stirling Range National Park but I have many listings within 1000 miles of Stirling Range National Park. I am expecting it to search for Toilets within 1000 miles of Stirling Range National Park but it is giving me no results found.

    Hello,

If you are talking about the default near me limit, that is a max of 200 miles:

GD – Advanced Search – Default Near Me miles limit (1-200)

Did you have additional questions about this feature?

it’s about searching for listings that contain a tag, category, content in the heading and/or description within 1000 miles of a location entered into the ‘near’ field. It is not calculating the centre of that location and looking for listings.

This is not about the ‘near me’ as that works. It’s the ‘Near to’ that is not working.

Let’s see your example; can you please share the link of a detail page for a listing, and then a search that should display that listing, and we can see if we can help.

As mentioned, there is no setting for ‘1000 miles’, only 200 max.

    From https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#near

The default GD search is not an IN search, but a search NEAR THE CENTER OF.

If you search IN Stirling Range National Park [city] you will get ONLY listings IN Stirling Range National Park [city].
The radius of 320km is irrelevant because the search function has been asked to return results IN Stirling Range National Park [city], not AROUND.

If you search NEAR THE CENTER OF Stirling Range National Park, GD will calculate the geographic center of the park, and then return all listings within the radius selected as part of you setting the search parameters.

    Thanks

    Thank you!

i didn’t realise i had to actually type ‘NEAR THE CENTER OF’ to get it to search that it was always searching for IN.

You don’t have to type that.
The only difference is when you type a location, you can choose the suggested location, which will result in a IN search.
If you don’t accept the suggested location, it will be a NEAR search.
Have a look at the field in the search results page. If it’s coloured and starts with IN, then it’s an IN search.
